Sheldon Adelman Fills Up With Cheap Gas

             Not one to pass up a good deal.

Famous American billionaire Sheldon Gary Adelson, the casino and
hotel magnate, is one of those who has come to vacation spots like
Bodrum, Marmaris and Kuşadası lately to get cheap fuel.  For his
luxury yacht he purchased 176,000 liters of fuel.

The 92-meter yacht "Queen Miri", owned by Adelson and his family,
anchored at the marina in Kuşadası in Aydın province and the
176,000 liters of fuel were brought to Kuşadası in tankers from
Izmir's Aliağa district.  After filling up, the "Queen Miri" departed
for Sicily.

According to Forbes Magazine, Adelson is the 16th richest person
in the world, with a fortune amounting to $43.5 billion.  He gained
additional notoriety by making a $25 million campaign contribution
to Donald Trump.  On the "Queen Miri" there are two 'king's suites'
among the 18 cabins, which has all the features of a luxury yacht,
attended by a crew of 36.

Yachts like Adelman's are coming to Turkish seaports to take
advantage of fuel prices made all the more attractive by the lira's
fall against foreign currencies like the dollar, pound and euro.
In addition, by declaring that the yacht will not remain in Turkish
territorial waters, the yacht owners can avoid paying the ÖTV
(special consumption tax), as well. (!)

In Seyhan district of Adana province, retired policeman Talip Ç.(55)
called his brother-in-law İsmet Avcı (50) about an outstanding debt.
Receiving an unsatisfactory reply, Talip Ç. went to a cafeteria where
he knew Avcı would be to talk to him about the debt.

Talip Ç. sat down at a table next to Avcı, shook his hand and kissed
his cheeks.  However, after a brief conversation, an argument erupted
between the two and an angry Talip Ç. pulled out a revolver, firing
at Avcı.  As the other customers in the cafeteria scrambled for their
lives (see video), Talip Ç. got up and walked out as if nothing special
had happened.  Avcı died at a hospital and Talip Ç. was picked up by
police shortly afterwards.

Village Chiefs Expand Their Horizons

               "We're not in Kansas anymore..."

Based on orders from President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan that 'muhtars'
(village and neighborhood chiefs) should see different cultures abroad,
so far 450 of the chiefs have been taken on tours of Spain's Andalusia
region, through coordination between the Interior and Culture &
Tourism Ministries.

In a statement released by the Interior Ministry, up to now 9 tours
have been conducted for 450 village and neighborhood chiefs to
Andalusia and by the end of the year another 550 will go to Spain,
Jerusalem and Mecca.  The 10th tour heads for Andalusia next week.
350 muhtars will go to Jerusalem and 650 will go to Mecca by the
end of the year.

The tours abroad are aimed at having the muhtars learn about the
traces of Islamic civilization in world culture, increase their knowledge,
social education and experience so that they can perform their jobs
better. (!)

Batman Maps Out a Big Change

One big danger: super- enemies from outer space will spot 
'Batman' in a heartbeat.

Kemal Atkan Kırca has started a movement on the international
campaign platform Change.org to have the borders of Batman
province redrawn in the shape of the 'Batman' logo. (!)  So far,
more than 10,000 people have signed on to the campaign.

Also, a number of youths in Batman have grown mustaches and
beards resembling the 'Batman' logo as a way of showing their
support for the campaign. 


                     I'd turn back if I were you...


In 2008, Batman Mayor Hüseyin Kalkan brought a suit against
the makers of 'Batman' films for appropriating the province's name
without permission.  The suit had the effect of raising Batman
province's profile around the world.
