In Istanbul, A.G., codenamed Tacik Azra, the 'emir' of an ISIS-linked
organization whose members are of Tajik, Uighur, Uzbek and Kazakh
origin, has been arrested. The day after the New Years Eve Reina nightclub
massacre, police received a tip about the Uzbek A.G./Tacik Azra. As
police searched for the Reina killer, they determined the location of the
house in the Zeytinburnu section of Istanbul where A.G. was hiding.
On 2 January police entered the house and found numerous passports
and military camouflage equipment. The Uzbek 'emir' A.G. took care
of ISIS militants coming from Central Asia and facilitated their entry
into Syria and Iraq. Besides A.G., three other individuals were arrested.
An investigation is continuing to determine whether or not A.G. had
a connection to the Reina killer Abdulgadir Masharipov.
Meanwhile, police have determined that Talip Akkurt, a member of
ISIS's Turkish execution team in Syria, codenamed 'Yaşar', left Istanbul
by car in February 2016 for Gaziantep and then entered Syria. S.B., the
person who facilitated the transit to Syria of Akkurt, who produced
propaganda videos for ISIS, has been arrested.
