In Diyarbakır, a police operation conducted against contraband
smugglers resulted in the seizure of a Sumerian medical prescription
from 3,000 B.C. Anti-smuggling teams conducted 32 separate
operations in 44 days in the province. In one of the raids, police
found the Sumerian historical work, which was made in tablet form
and written in cuneiform script.
cuneiform script for those in need of a linguistic challenge.
Efforts are underway to determine how the tablet came to be in
Diyarbakır. Translation of the tablet was begun by Prof. Leon
Legrain, a Babil expert, in 1940 and completed with the help
of Martin Levey and Samuel N. Kremain in 1953.
Half of it is ISISistan these days :(
