Hospital Accountant's Drip by Drip Embezzlement

The salaries of personnel at the Metin Sabancı Baltalimanı Bones
Hospital were showing small reductions and a scandal years in the
making erupted. The Ministry of Health decided to look into the
matter and inspector Şahin Savaş found that between 2003 and
2010 accountant Yusuf Keleş had finagled the books to embezzle
1.9 million TL (about $600,000).
Keleş had siphoned off small amounts from payments made to
the hospital personnel, amounting to a 1.3 million TL loss for those
individuals and a 600,000 loss to the Treasury. Keleş sent the money
to the accounts of himself and 19 others but did not send the payroll
registry electronically to the bank, instead sending information to
the bank by email.
Keleş is now a defendent in multiple court cases filed by both the
victimized hospital personnel and the government. Four of Keleş's
supervisors are also been held accountable for not keeping track
of Keleş's activities. The Health Ministry had demanded all the
money back, with interest (!).
