Turkey ‘extradites two Russian spies in exchange for two Crimean Tatar politicians’
Coming to Turkey: Would that their names were 'Gülen'
and 'Zarrab'...
Turkey has extradited two Russian spies in exchange for two
Crimean Tatar politicians jailed in Russia, daily Habertürk
reported on Nov. 29.
Aleksandr Smirnov and Lurii Anisimov, who were arrested last
year in relation to the killing of Chechen commander Vahid
Edelgiriev in Istanbul, were extradited to Moscow as Ilmi Umerov
and Ahtem Chiygoz were released and sent to Turkey.
According to reports, Edelgireyev was shot and stabbed by
assassins using a white car on Nov. 1, 2015, in the Kayaşehir
district of Istanbul.
In response to the assassination, units from Turkey’s National
Intelligence Agency (MIT), together with the police, carried out
Operation “Kama” in April 2016, which culminated with the
arrests of Smirnov, 55, and Anisimov, 52, over their suspected
involvement in the murder.
According to the indictment prepared in February, the two
Russian spies were part of a “lead unit” responsible for killing
seven Chechens between 2000 and 2015.
The suspects were accused of “attempting to obtain secret state
information for political or military espionage purposes,”
“helping in voluntary manslaughter” and “forgery of official
documents” in the indictment, which also claimed that the
Russians provided logistical and technical support to the hitmen.
While the indictment revealed Russian links to fugitive hitmen,
both spies denied the charges against them.
During a hearing of the case on Oct. 24, a significant
development took place when the court received notices sent
by Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office’s Terror and
Organized Crime Bureau and Justice Ministry’s International
Law and Foreign Relations.
The prosecutor subsequently demanded the release of Anisimov
and Smirnov based on a recent change made to article 26 of MİT
law, following the state of emergency decree.
According to the decree, published in the Official Gazette on
Aug. 15, extraditions or exchanges between countries are
permissible in cases concerning national security and the
country’s interests if they are demanded by the foreign or
justice ministries or the president.
On the strength of this amendment, the Russian agents were
released and extradited to Russia, which was followed by the
release of jailed Crimean Tatar politicians Umerov and Chiygoz.
Last month, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko thanked
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan for his role in helping
free the pair in a Twitter post.
Umerov, deputy head of the Crimean Tatars’ semi-official
Mejlis legislature before it was suspended by Moscow, was
sentenced by a Russian court to two years in jail for
separatism.
Chiygoz, another Crimean Tatar leader, was sentenced
at the same time to eight years for stirring up anti-Russian
 protests.

Wild Pigs as Liberation Symbols

Turkish district marks liberation anniversary with parade of hunted boars
Historians resorting to  "Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon" theory
to figure out the symbolism.

A Turkish district has marked its anniversary of freedom from
invasion with a parade of hunted boars, causing outrage among
animal rights activists.  Hunters in the Enez district of the western
province of Edirne paraded with the boars they killed during a
ceremony organized to mark the 95th anniversary of the district’s
freedom from invasion on Nov. 24.

Enez District Governor Elif Canan Tuncer Ersöz, main opposition
Republican People’s Party (CHP) Edirne lawmakers Okan
Gaytancıoğlu and Erdin Bircan, Enez Mayor Abdullah Bostancı
from the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and
representatives of political parties, as well as citizens, attended
the ceremony, in which a parade took place after a speech by
Bostancı.

The Enez Hunters’ Club’s parade was the most attention-grabbing one,
with dead boars loaded on trucks passing through the ceremony area,
prompting animal rights groups to object to the incident.
“Did we save this country from enemy invasion by killing animals?”
said Enez Protection of Natural Life, Environment and Stray Animals
Association head Selma Yılmaz, as she added that the parade
“showed killing as a legitimate act.”

“We are obliged to live with such narrow minded, shallow and
barbaric people. This is a mindset that kills boars and exhibits them
on a day of liberation and takes pride in it. Children are being
raised in this type of environment. Killing is shown as if it’s a
legitimate act.” said Yılmaz.

Turkish footballer Selçuk İnan sues Samsung for ‘S8’ logo
                Monetizing self-infatuation.

Turkish Super League leader Galatasaray’s midfielder Selçuk İnan
has sued technology giant Samsung for using his registered logo
“S8” as the brand name for its latest handset. The Turkish
international footballer has demanded 100,000 Turkish Liras,
roughly $25,400, in compensation from the South Korean
conglomerate.  İnan had registered his logo “S8” at the Turkish
Copyright Institute (TPE) four years ago, like Cristiano Ronaldo,
who owns the rights for the logo “QR7” or Ricardo Quaresma,
who owns “Q7.”  İnan’s close friend, Trabzonspor’s Burak Yılmaz,
holds the rights for “BY17.”  “The defendant has not hesitated in
its use of a brand that cannot be differentiated from my client’s
registered brand,” said İnan’s lawyer in a legal complaint,
demanding Samsung stop its new modern Galaxy smartphones
with the “S8” logo on them as a precaution until the law case is
concluded.  Samsung unveiled its Galaxy S8, Samsung Galaxy
S8+ and Samsung Galaxy S8 Active on March 2017 to succeed
the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the S7 Edge.

Colonel Creep's expression never changes, as if etched in stone.

In Muğla's Bodrum district, a woman named L.S. (32) appealed to
police last week, saying that her boyfriend (!) Süleyman B. (48), who
had passed himself off to her as a 'retired colonel', had taken nude
photographs of her and then forced her into prostitution.

L.S. explained that "I just wanted to start a happy life with him. He
told me he was a retired colonel and gained my trust.  A while later he
told me that for fun (!) he had taken photos of me in our bedroom and
that if I didn't sleep with other men for money he would release the
photos on social media.  I was shocked.   He sold me to other men
until I couldn't take it anymore.  Please save me from this man!"

When another woman made the same complaint about the 'retired
colonel', police took Süleyman B. into custody.  A search of his
home yielded a computer drive holding nude photos of the women.

Turkish Driver All the Rage in DC

//ed. note: TNT editor-in-chief is currently on assignment in
Washington DC and noted the following incident.//

Walking down 14th Street, TNT E-i-C and TNT DC 'stringer' Renan
(one name, like 'Cher') approached the K Street intersection. As
pedestrians tried to cross the street they were being harassed
by an aggressive driver who kept honking and acting threateningly.
TNT E-i-C shouted out loud "What is your problem?!"  When the
car turned the corner and the vanity license plate became visible the
problem was more clearly understood: "OZTURK".
