They could have at least made it look like a tree...
In Kumluca, Antalya, Tuğba Günal and Birhan Erkutlu have waged a
legal battle against HES (hydropower) stations on the Alakır River.
So far, 5 HES units have been built and 3 more are in the planning
stage. The land next to where the couple have a mud-brick home
has been purchased by the construction chief of the Kürce HES project,
which belongs to the Metamar/Dedegöl energy company.
The water flow to the couple's land has been cut off so for the past
70 days they have gone down to the Alakır River to wash their clothes
and fill jugs of water for their livelihood. Now, the HES company
has erected a pole in front of the entrance to the couple's home with
four cameras on it.
When not hugging trees they hug each other.
The couple explained that "they've put these 4 cameras directly across
from the entrance to our house. The HES watchman has threatened to
break our arms and legs, and their hands are always on the triggers of
their guns. The HES watchman was given a jail sentence months ago
but he's still here, trying to make our lives difficult."
Kumluca is at center-right-bottom.
