Money to Burn

This is how one looks when dreams go up in flames...

In Trabzon, retiree Hasan Saraç (90), the father of 12 children,
saved his money for five years in order to be able to go to Saudi
Arabia for 'umre' (minor pilgrimage to Mecca).  Saraç gave the
$1,470 he saved to friend Tayyar K. to count.  Taking the money,
Tayyar K. said "shall I throw it in the stove?", evidently thinking
the money was fake.

In response, Saraç, assuming Tayyar K. was joking, said "sure,
throw it in."  However, Tayyar K. did throw the dollars into the
stove (!).  In shock, Saraç put his hands into the burning stove to
try to save the money but it had become unusable from the flames.
