Giving new meaning to "customizing" one's vehicle.
In Istanbul, a month ago police noticed a stolen luxury car with
phony license plates. The car was followed, in particular in the
Arnavutköy area and the vicinity of Şamlar village in İkitelli.
Police determined that the car was outfitted to enable the suspects
to steel 'mazot' (diesel fuel) from parked trucks.
Police raided the suspects' home in the early morning and took
Yunus Y. (26), Volkan Ö. (26), Mehmet Ö. (23) and Gökhan T.
(23) into custody. The raided home had essentially been turned
into a gas station. In the lower level of the home police found
tanks holding 3,800 liters of stolen mazot. The stolen luxury car's
back seat had been removed and replaced with a 400-liter
capacity tank. (!)
Only thing missing in this "gas station" is a Kwik-E-Mart
The suspects stole fuel from the parked trucks, filled the tank
in the car and then transferred it to the depot in the house. The
fuel was then offered for sale as "cheap mazot" to truckers and
drivers at half price. Police determined that the thieves stole
about 2 tons of mazot every night. Yunus Y. and Volkan Ö.
were arrested and the other suspects were released.
Arnavutköy and Şamlar are at upper left.
