iPhone's Siri was deaf to Uğurlu's plea for relief.
Yelda Uğurlu filed a suit against Apple and a company named
Nuance Communications for using her voice for Siri, Apple's
audio iPhone assistant. According to Uğurlu, she signed an
agreement with Nuance in 2011, thinking that her voice would be
used for announcements on public transportation.
Nuance, however, sold Uğurlu's voice to Apple Turkey and
Uğurlu claims that Nuance did so without informing her or
obtaining her approval, prompting her to file the lawsuit. An
expert witness appointed by the court determined that the Siri
voice is Uğurulu's but in a second expert witness report the
court heard that Nuance has the right to use Uğurlu's voice.
Consequently, the court threw out Uğurlu's lawsuit.
In Turkish 'siri' means satiety, fullness, abundance.
Uğurlu's interpretation is rather the opposite.
