Now that they're in Çermik, no one wants to have to translate
"Hasta la vista, Baby!"
Two Colombian football players on their nation's youth team have
been picked up by Diyarbakır's Çermikspor team, which has risen
to compete in the Super Amateur League. The Colombians,
Luis Alberto (21) and Diego Alejandro (22), though, speak no
Turkish and no one in Çermik speaks Spanish.
Luis Alberto played mid-field on the Deportes Tolina team in
Colombia's Premier A League, while stopper Diego Alejandro
played on Cucuta Deportivo in Colombia's Premier B League.
To solve the language problem, Çermikspor officials have
downloaded the Google translator application to the players'
phones to facilitate communication.
Çermikspor's technical director (coach) Hacı Eroğlu explained
that "through mediation between managers, we got the two
Colombian players but communication is a problem. Right
now, thanks to the translator application we're communicating.
We're aiming to win the championship in the Super Amateur
League, where we'll be playing for the first time." The arrival
of the two South American footballers has created excitement
in the district of 50,000 people.
Çermik district is in far western Diyarbakır province.
