The 'kombine' (season ticket) football ticket of today has been
encountered at the 2,000-year-old Afrodisias Antique City stadium
in Aydın. Afrodisias stadium measures 262 meters in length and 50
meters in width and could host a crowd of 30,000 spectators.
Excavations at the stadium have revealed geometric lines that reserved
certain seats for particular families. Excavation chief Prof. Dr. Roland
R.R. Smith of Oxford explained that "the events at the stadium were
not only for sports, but cultural, as well. Spectators who wanted to
regularly attend the events had their seating areas designated. In fact,
we can see the names of families from surrounding villages inscribed
on particular seating areas, just like today's football matches."
