Black VITO Mercedes minivan was parked in front
of the Saudi Arabian Consulate on 2 October as
Jamal Kashoggi entered the building.
In connection with the investigation into the death of Jamal
Kashoggi, Istanbul police are pursuing a new lead. On the
day that Kashoggi entered the Saudi Arabian Consulate at
13:14 hours, at 15:03 hours six vehicles, some of which
were consulate vehicles, departed the Consulate.
Sultanbeyli is at center of map. D-100, also known as
E-5, runs a few miles above the coast of the Sea of
Marmara from Istanbul toward Gebze and İzmit.
,
A black VITO Mercedes went to the Consulate-General's
residence and stayed there until 18:10 hours, after which
it departed and returned to the consulate building at 22:00
hours. The absence of the black VITO vehicle for 4
hours caught the attention of police, who determined that
the vehicle first entered the D-100 highway, continued on
that road for a while and then exited. Police are now
examining video from the area where the vehicle exited
the D-100 highway. It has been learned that the vechicle
was spotted in Sultanbeyli, on the Anatolian side of
Istanbul. Police are evaluating the possibility that
Kashoggi's body may have been disposed of in a forested
area.
Belgrad Ormanları (forests) is a large wooded area
in the northeast part of European Istanbul. The site
of the Saudi Consulate is lower-center, above the
blue line.
Of two black minibuses which left the Saudi Consulate
in Istanbul, one went to the Belgrad Forest in northeast
European Istanbul and the other went to Termal district
in Yalova, which is frequented by Arab tourists. Police
who went to Belgrad Forest are examining video from
there. Police also are evaluating the likelihood that the
other vehicles from the Saudi Consulate roamed the
streets of Istanbul in order to throw off any surveillance.
May he rest in peace.
