Pageant officials ruled she can continue to issue
royal edicts from jail.
Sibel Demiralp (25) represented Turkey in the 14th running
of the Queen of Eurasia beauty contest in 2016 and took
first place. But in 2017 police identified a gang that was
"honey-trapping" businessmen and in the subsequent raid
5 people were taken into custody, including Demiralp. (!)
The day before yesterday the court handed down its
verdict in the case and Demiralp, along with 4 others,
were convicted of blackmailing jeweler H.F. and were
sentenced to 13 years in jail.

In his statement to the court, H.F. said that he met
Demiralp on the internet. She invited him to her home
in Şişli, Istanbul, for coffee but when he arrived he was
beaten by 5 individuals. H.F. was then photographed
naked with Demiralp and other suspects, who used
the pictures to blackmail H.F. out of 240,000 TL. (then
about $80,000).
In court, a tearful Demiralp, who is originally from
Adana, expressed her regret. Last year, while preparing
for a Fashion Week event in Istanbul, Demiralp had a
heart attack and was taken to a hospital. (!)
Queen's reception committee eagerly awaits.
