Other drivers on the D-100 highway couldn't believe their
eyes when they saw a Willys Jeep with civilian plate
34 KYM 30 proceeding from the Golden Horn Bridge
toward Topkapı Palace, because a 12.5 millimeter anti-
aircraft gun was mounted on the back of the vehicle. (!)
The 2 individuals in the Jeep later explained that the gun
was a replica and that they were heading to a Jeep fair.
But as they drove along D-100 they sometimes turned the
gun toward other cars, as a joke evidently, prompting
the other drivers to quickly change lanes.
When you want to intimidate that guy who's
crowding into your lane.
Police took driver Murat Taşlıdağ into custody at his
home in Kadıköy and the Jeep was taken to the Kadıköy
police station, where it was carefully searched. Taşlıdağ
was released after giving a statement but he was fined
451 TL (about $75) for using a cellphone while driving,
failing to strap on his seat belt, making a technical
alteration to the vehicle and creating a traffic hazard.
The Jeep was banned from traffic henceforth.
Taşlıdağ was inspired after his vacation in Mogadishu.
