Up the down staircase.
Istanbul police on the third floor raided their colleagues on the
second floor. Police officers G.Y. (44) and M.D. (45) of the bureau
that tracks down 'wanted' suspects, picked up brothers S.Ç. and
Gürkan Ç. in the Beylikdüzü district of the city on 1 November.
But the brothers were released after paying substantial bribes to
the two policemen.
On 19 November the brothers were again arrested at a hotel in
Bakırköy district and again the policemen took bribes, releasing
the brothers. When it was noticed that the bank account balances
of G.Y. and M.D. suddenly increased, detectives in the internal
affairs bureau went into action.
After it was determined that G.Y. and M.D. had taken bribes,
the Büyükçekmece public prosecutor issued an arrest warrant
for them. So, the internal affairs detectives on the 3rd floor of
the police station went to the floor below and took G.Y. and
M.D. into custody.
Gürkan Ç. is a former football player and in December 2017
he escaped from the Büyükçekmece courthouse where he was
on trial.
