Must have been kids' 'Sales & Marketing Director For a Day'
event that never ended.
Emrah Kahraman (whose surname means 'hero'), the sales and
marketing director for the Aşçıoğlu Group, which is running the
Selenium Ataköy and Selenium Retro housing projects in Ataköy,
Istanbul, embezzled the payments of customers to his own bank
account and invested the money in Bitcoins. When Bitcoin lost value
Kahraman gambled to recover the money but he lost at gambling,
as well.
When company officials noticed the losses, Kahraman was arrested.
He had been made sales and marketing director for Aşçıoğlu in
2015. In 2017, Kahraman diverted a 500,000 TL cash payment from
a home-buyer but instead of putting the money in the company's
account he bought Bitcoins (!). However, Bitcoin lost value and
Kahraman lost 200,000 TL in 3 weeks.
Kahraman put the remaining 300,000 in the company's account and
tried to recover the money he lost on Bitcoins by gambling online
but that did not go well either. So Kahraman took money that a
foreign home-buyer put down to continue his online gambling,
again without success. In June 2018, Kahraman began to gamble in
the traditional on-the-street fashion.
On 29 November, Kahraman took a 150,000 payment from a
foreign home-buyer and used it for gambling. However, the company
finally noticed the diversion and determined that Kahraman had
embezzled 4 million TL. He was taken into custody and confessed.
