Sultangazi "Father of the Year" award slipping away...
In Sultangazi, Istanbul, Hatice G. (18) called police and told them
that for a year her father Zekeriya G. has chained her to a washing
machine so she could not leave their house (!). Sure enough, when
police arrived at the home they found Hatice chained to the machine
by her left ankle. Her mother Hazile G. was at home at the time the
police came.
Police were unable to break the padlock on the 5-meter chain so
they called a blacksmith, who cut the chain to free Hatice. In her
statement to police, Hatice revealed that "I ran away from home a
few times and stayed with a friend. My father said my friend used
drugs so to prevent me from going there he started to chain me and
this has been going on for a year. When he comes home he unlocks
the chain and then locks it again when he leaves the house."
Hatice did not file a complaint against either of her parents but the
public prosecutor had her placed in a women's shelter. As for dad
Zekeriya G., who is the father of Hatice's two other siblings, he was
taken into custody, brought before a judge and jailed.

Heartless progeny.
Halil Karadağlı (42) lives in Çıkrıkçı village of Sındırgı district,
Balıkesir province. On 17 July 2015, Karadağlı called the Gendarmerie
to report that his mother Fadime Korkmaz Sevinç had gone missing.
The Gendarmerie began searching for heart patient Fadime hanım but
noticed that she had not purchased her medicine since the date her son
reported that she had disappeared.
The Gendarmerie team determined that Fadime hanım could not have
lived without her medicine so they took Karadağlı, who has a criminal
record, into custody and searched the backyard. In the course of
digging, the team found bones and DNA testing confirmed that the
bones were those of Fadime hanım. Karadağlı then confessed that he
had argued with his mother and stabbed her to death, burying her in
their backyard.
Sındırgı is Balıkesir's southernmost district.
