This is the teachers' lounge!
Turkey's most crowded elementary school is in the Yeşilkent
neighborhood of Istanbul's Avcılar district. The population of
the neighborhood has increased by 150% (!) in the past 10 years,
putting the number of students at Leyla Bayram Elementary School
at nearly 5,300, with Syrian refugees numbering 800.
No elbow room at recess either.
In each of the school's 128 classrooms, there is an average of
42 students per room. A principal and 4 deputies run the school,
which has 64 security cameras and 3 security guards. In order to
reduce the number of students at the school another school will
be built for the neighborhood.
Avcılar district is on the Sea of Marmara coast.
