Even if the shoe fits, don't wear it!
The principal at Akşemsettin elementary school in Sincan district
of Ankara has forbidden female teachers from wearing high-heel
shoes because they are "not religiously appropriate."
High-handed anti-high-heel memo.
Gamze Taşcıer, a CHP (opposition party) Ankara parliamentarian,
explained that "First, the principal sent a note to female teachers
telling them that wearing high-heels is not proper, from a religious
standpoint. Next, he sent an official memo which said the same
thing. Why would women wearing high-heels make anyone
uncomfortable? A 'fetva' (opinion on religious matters) was
issued regarding women's use of clothes, hair, make-up and lipstick
in public. Now there's this official memo that interferes. This
mentality aims to consign women to the home. These people are
also against girls getting an education. An investigation into this
principal should be started immediately and he should be relieved
of duty."
But he can wear high-heels if he wants to. Discrimination!
