Yeter B. teaching son-in-law Serdar İ. tango steps.
In Ankara, Serdar İ. (27) began a relationship with his widowed
mother-in-law Yeter B. (41) about two years ago. Yeter B.'s son
Serdar B. learned of the tryst by reading his mother's Facebook
messages with Serdar İ. Enraged, on 21 March 2017, Serdar B.
and his uncle Yusuf Tercanlıoğlu attacked Serdar İ. and his father
while they were washing a car, with knives. Serdar İ. was wounded
in the attack but was able to shoot Tabancıoğlu dead.
Serdar İ. and Serdar B. were tried in an Ankara court for murder and
assault, respectively. Serdar İ. was given a life sentence but this was
reduced to 15 years because he committed the murder "under unjust
incitement". As for Serdar B., his sentence was similarly reduced
from 3 years 9 months to 2 years 7 months, but without the "unjust
incitement" justification. In any event, Serdar B. was allowed to pay
a 1,500 TL (about $250) fine and his jail sentence was "postponed".
In its ruling the court explained that "Yeter B. is not responsible to
her son Serdar B. for her lifestyle and behavior. According to
section 185/2 of the Turkish Civil Code, she is only responsible for
fidelity to her husband. Yeter B.'s relationship with Serdar İ. was
consensual and regardless of how reprehensible this may be to
accepted rules of morality and communal conscience, it was not
illegal. Serdar B. cannot take advantage of the 'unjust incitement'
sentence reduction in this circumstance."
//Ed. Note: it seems that Serdar İ. murdered Tercanlıoğlu under
the 'unjust incitement' of Tercanlıoğlu's and Serdar B.'s attack on
him, since Serdar B., being Yeter B.'s son, had no right to 'defend'
his mother's honor - only her late husband could have claimed
that 'right'.//
Well, at least it didn't get this wierd.
