Unrequited love and loyalty.
In Bodrum district of Muğla province, a half-breed German Shepherd
dog still waits for the family that abandoned him a year ago at the
bus stop they left from. Neighbor Burçin Keleş noticed the dog
through her window and explained that "my husband and I gave the
dog the name 'Can' (soul, life). For a year he's been waiting at this
stop for the family that left him behind to return. In very cold weather,
we take him into our yard at nights but in the morning he climbs the
fence and goes back to the stop to wait."

Keleş added that "the shopkeepers and residents love him but he
wants that family. We think the family will come back and get him.
The story is that a neighbor complained that the dog was shedding
too much and when the family left they didn't take the dog with them,
riding away from him at the bus stop. I want to find a new home for
Can and I've had him inoculated with the requisite shots. I have a
child in school in Canada and we're going to settle there soon, too.
If we don't find him a home here by then, we'll take him with us to
Canada."
