TNT Murder Edition: Here's Mud in Your Mouth!

The nuns used to wash out our mouths with soap. But mud?!

Last year on 1 July, Yılmaz Kaya (37), who lived in Camiatik village
in Konya's Ilgın district, went up to his home above his work place to
go to sleep after working the night shift.  At 3 o'clock in the afternoon
that day, Kaya's girlfriend, Georgian Natalia Chalauri, arrived at the
home and found Kaya motionless.  An autopsy was performed on Kaya
and dirt was found in his mouth and nose, indicating that he had been
smothered to death with mud (!).

Police reviewed available video and saw that Kaya's nephew Tahsin
Kaya had entered Yılmaz's flat and departed 26 minutes later.  On 12
March, Kaya's older brother A.K., his brother's wife  K.K. (50),
nephew Tahsin Kaya, Tahsin's sister Ü.C.K. and L.M. (26), who is six
months pregnant, were all taken into custody and brought to Konya. 
Tahsin confessed to the murder and said that his mother waited in a car
while he killed Yılmaz.  Meanwhile, Tahsin's sister Ü.C.K. kept Natalia
Chalauri distracted at a restaurant on the ground floor of the building.

Tahsin explained to police that "I entered Yılmaz's house with a spare
key. I tried to smother Yılmaz, who was sleeping, with a pillow. Then
I took some dirt from a flower pot on the staircase landing, wet it to
make it mud and stuffed the mud into Yılmaz's mouth and nose."

Four of the suspects were released under judicial supervision and Tahsin
was arrested for premeditated murder.  The reason the family killed
Yılmaz was that Yılmaz, who had a 1 million TL debt, wanted to leave
the family partnership.  According to Tahsin, Yılmaz had said "give me
500,000 TL and assume the rest of my debt." 



                       Ilgın is northwest of Konya city.
