In Eyyübiye, Şanlıurfa province, three months ago a Gendarmerie
team found a wounded red vulture, an endangered species. The
bird had a label on its foot that revealed that it had come from
Serbia and that it was a 'Dobrila' red vulture.
Following treatment in Turkey, yesterday the vulture was transported
to Belgrade aboard a Turkish cargo plane. At Nikola Tesla Airport,
Turkish Ambassador Tanju Bilgiç declared the transport operation a
great success and an indication of the good relations between Serbia
and Turkey.
The Dobrila vulture's natural habitat is along the Uvac River in
Serbia and the bird will be set free there shortly. There are about
500 Dobrila vultures at Uvac.
