Techno-Crime Boss...they get younger all the time.
Turk hacker Kerem Albayrak (22) hacked into U.S. tech giant Apple's
iCloud system and put some material he purloined on YouTube in order
to blackmail Apple. The day before yesterday, Albayrak came before
a judge.
Claiming that he had accessed more than 300 million iCloud accounts,
Albayrak threatened to erase all of them if Apple did not pay him a
ransom. Albayrak, the head of the "Turkish Crime Family" (!) hacker
group, was given a 2-year jail sentence but this was converted to
300 hours of community service. He will wear an electronic tracking
device for 6 months.
Albayrak lives in Hornsey, north of London. In total, he demanded
133,000 British pounds worth of Bitcoins and an iTunes coupon valued
at 837 British pounds from Apple. In 2017, Albayrak contacted Apple
and threatened to sell information from various accounts, demanding
$75,000 in Bitcoins and a $100 iTunes gift coupon to keep him from
erasing data on the iCloud system. Subsequently, Albayrak erased the
video content he had shared on YouTube. Also in 2017, Albayrak was
involved in the 'WannaCry' ransomware attack.
