...in happier days.
Toward morning the day before yesterday in Keçiören district of
Ankara, handyman İsmail Katar (54) came home drunk. At the time,
his wife Elif, their three sons and daughter-in-law were asleep but
Katar's screaming and cursing woke up his wife.
When Katar threatened his wife, their eldest son S. Katar, who by this
time had woken up, punched his father, knocking him down. Katar
passed out and remained in the living room. A bit later, son S.Katar
tried to wake his father up but could not so he called an ambulance.
After an examination, Katar was declared dead and family members
were questioned. At this point, Elif Katar admitted that she had
strangled her husband after the other family members had gone back
to sleep.
Elif hanım explained that "he came home drunk toward morning and
started cursing and insulting me. I told him to be quiet so as not to
wake the others but he came toward me in a threatening manner. My
eldest son woke up and hit him. He then passed out. He was so drunk
he couldn't stand up. After the others went back to bed, I put a rope
around my unconscious husband's neck and strangled him."
Keçiören is in Ankara city.
