                     Sperm warriors: The doc vs. the cop.

İlker Vural, who is a public prosecutor in Niğde, and his wife Sabire
Esra Vural decided on trying the in vitro fertilization (IVF) method
to have a child, so the couple contacted Dr. Çağlar Yazıcıoğlu at
Adıbadem Hospital in Kayseri. 

However (!), in a notarized statement he sent to the hospital on 20
January, Vural asserted that on 13 January, the day of the IVF
operation, he was made to wait 55 minutes before giving a sperm
sample, although his appointment for the "procedure" was supposed
to be 0830.  When Vural finally got to the "sperm room" at 0930 he
found the room's hygiene level lacking.

Meanwhile, Vural's wife, in the operating room, called Vural to tell
him that "apparently, you've insulted the doctor.  Unless you apologize
he won't do the operation." (!)  In his statement, Vural declared that
"my wife was kept waiting in the cold and unhygeinic operating room
for an hour and 40 minutes against her will. This is a crime that calls
for a jail sentence of from 4 to 14 years!"



Continuing in his statement, Vural said that "thinking the hospital was
a safe place, I didn't bring a police guard with me." He added that even
though the money he paid for the IVF operation was returned to him,
he still wanted Yazıcıoğlu and his team fired. 

For his part, Yazıcıoğlu stated that Sabire Esra Vural had called
him to say that "my husband came to give sperm but no one is
attending to him."  In response, Yazıcıoğlu noted that he had ensured
that Vural's "procedure" was accomplished but he added that Vural
"had scolded the admitting clerk, and screamed 'there's sperm all over
the room! Tell that 'artist' they call Çağlar (Yazıcıoğlu) to call me right
away!'" 

Subsequently, Yazıcıoğlu went to the operating room and performed
the IVF operation on Sabire Esra hanım.  Vural asserted that he had
gone to the "sperm room" two hours prior and found it to be unclean.
He shouted at Yazıcıoğlu when he came into the Vural family's
hospital room: "Do you know who I am?! I'm a prosecutor! I handle
terrorism cases and in a half an hour I can have a SWAT team here!"

Yazıcıoğlu plans to file a suit against Vural: "He used his position as
prosecutor to try to intimidate me and to get the fee I'm entitled to
returned to him.  I'm filing suit against him for the stress and fear
he visited upon me."
