"Businessmen" Özlü & Temur
On 3 December 2016 in Maltepe, Istanbul, businessman Ercan Temur
(38) arrived at his home around midnight. As Temur got out of his car
it was raked by gunfire from four individuals, two on either side of his
car. A total of 29 bullets struck the car and two of them hit Temur just
above and below his heart. He survived and the attackers fled.
At the hospital, Temur was able to give police information about the
gunmen and he alleged that his estranged relative (!) Nizamettin Özlü
(36) had ordered and participated in the hit. Temur also told police that
two of the gunmen, Ali Nebi Timurtaş (33) and Ramazan Hamamcı
(32), had scouted out the area around his house a few days before.
Temur's neighbors H.Ş.P. and O.B. identified the attackers, as well.
According to Temur, the enmity between himself and Özlü involved
a 1 million TL (about $175,000) debt. After the dispute arose, Özlü
had been attacked twice and, certain that Temur was to blame, he
pursued his relative to exact revenge.
In court, Özlü confirmed the enmity between himself and Temur. and
claimed that Temur and his associates had put uncomplimentary
photos of him on the internet. However, Özlü asserted that he had
nothing to do with the attack on Temur and that Hamamcı and
Timurtaş, both of whom are currently in jail for other crimes (!), were
not involved either.
Nevertheless, all three - Özlü, Hamamcı and Timurtaş - were charged
with premeditated attempted murder, with the prosecutor asking for
life sentences. The case about the fourth suspected gunman, A.Ç.,
was separated from the others.
