fawning treatment of Love and her Datça days.
Good riddance to bad ruins.
The American archeologist Iris Cornelia Love (87), who has died from
the coronavirus, spent the 1970s excavating the Knidos ruins in Datça.
In this regard, the Datça municipality posted the following tweet about
Love: "American archeologist Iris Cornelia Love, who sacked Knidos
and who dynamited every rock to fulfill her 'I will find the statue of
Aphrodite!' obsession, has died from the coronavirus. 'İyi bilmezdik'.
(Good Riddance!)"
However (!), criticism of the phrase "İyi bilmezdik" prompted the
municipality to issue a second tweet: "We agree with the criticisms
that the sentence 'İyi bilmezdik' was rude and we apologize."
Accusations that Love purloined Knidos treasures during her ten-year
stint at the site under the auspices of Long Island University, have
circulated in Datça for years.
