Postman, Fearing Dog, Loses Ear to Rabid Citizen

from his appointed rounds."


In Karamanoğlu Mehmetbey village of Karaman province, postman
Onur Kızıl (25) was about to enter an apartment to make his
deliveries when he noticed a dog in the garden.  Kızıl asked Sezai Ç.
(19) to restrain the dog but this request resulted in an argument
between the two.


                                 Stole the dog's thunder.


The argument became a fight, during which Sezai Ç. bit off Kızıl's
right ear (!).  Nearby citizens called for an ambulance and Kızıl,
along with his right ear, was first taken to Karaman Training and
Research Hospital and from there to a hospital in Konya.  Sezai Ç.
was taken into custody.  It has been learned that the dog in question
belongs to Sezai Ç.'s relative.


Support for Kızıl from fellow postmen came in from around
the world.

In his first statement about the incident, Sezai Ç. explained that
"The postman stopped his motorcycle in front of the building and
our terrier puppy ran toward the motorcycle.  The postman was
afraid of the dog, kicked it and cursed at it.  I told him there were
women around so he shouldn't curse.  In the ensuing argument
his ear came off (!).  My father put the ear in ice and gave it to
the health personnel.  I had no intention of harming the postman.
Everything just happened in an instant."
