Suicide by self-inflicted stabbings. And I've got a bridge to
sell you, he says.
In Kahramanmaraş on 17 November 2021, Sevgi Gevşek (27) was
brought to a hospital with stab wounds in her stomach. En route to
the hospital, Sevgi hanım, when asked how she was wounded, said
"I stabbed myself." (!)
Sevgi hanım died on 23 November and in connection with the related
investigation, her husband Durdu Gevşek (28) was taken into custody.
Gevşek claimed that Sevgi hanım had grabbed a knife from the kitchen
and stabbed herself. Nevertheless, he was charged with killing his wife
and put on trial for a life sentence.
The prosecutor's indictment stated that "the deceased could
not possibly have stabbed herself three times in the stomach in a
suicide attempt." Gevşek refuted the charges against him in court and
the committee of judges ruled that there was not enough concrete
evidence to convict Gevşek so he, along with his father İ.G. and friend
B.A., were acquitted. (!)
One member of the judges committee filed a dissent, stating that Gevşek
should be jailed for murder and İ.G: and B.A. jailed for destroying
evidence.
