Don't worry, you're not the only one who had no idea
where they are.
New Zealand is sending narcotic-sniffing dogs, soldiers and
even a state minister to the Antipodes Islands, 750 kilometers
away, to make sure that 200,000 rats that were eating albatross
birds, plants and endangering insect life there have been killed.
In June 2016, 65 tons of rodent poison were spread over a
2,045 hectare (about 5,000 acres) area of the island by two
helicopters and it was estimated that 200,000 rats would be
killed in 75 days. It is thought that the rats came ashore after
a shipwreck during the 19th century. Finding no predators
there, the rats made the island their own.
The last rat standing on Antipodes.
