That retirement house in Bodrum is only a 'berat' away.
Istanbul police got a tip that three people were involved in secreting a
large number of historic items outside the country. Raids on 20
addresses in Üsküdar, Kadıköy, Avcılar, Beylikdüzü and Ataşehir
resulted in the arrest of three former museum workers, İ.Ç., S.C. and
H.M.K.
Found at the addresses were 10 'berat' documents from the 18th century
that the Ottoman Sultan of the time promulgated. Additionally, the
suspects had 1,442 coins from Roman, Bizantine, Selçuk and Ottoman
eras, 36 objects from Hellenistic times and 1,502 other historic items.
Retired archivists left nothing to chance...
