Indians' burgeoning appetite for Turkey - and dressing well helps.
An Indian billionaire who is one of the richest businessmen in the
world is rewarding 3,500 of his employees with one-week vacations
this month in Istanbul (!), at a cost of $10 million. Many hotels in
Istanbul, including10 of the most luxurious, have been fully booked
for the Indians. The businessman's name has not yet been announced
to the public.
Turkish tourism officials Firuz Bağlıkaya, the head of TÜRSAB (a
travel agency organization), and Murtaza Kalender, the head of
Travel Shop Turkey, persuaded the Indian businessman to select
Istanbul for his employee largesse. The Turkish Culture and Tourism
Ministry, along with the head of the Istanbul Tourism Association,
Halil Kormaz, played key roles, as well.
The unnamed Indian businessman has a net worth of $12 billion
and he is distributing $1 million to the 3,500 employees for spending
money in Istanbul. 350 of the company's senior managers from
around the world will fly to Istanbul from 20 different countries.
This overseas company executive reacted favorably to the news
of his impending Istanbul vacation.
