The late Prof. Dr. Ramazan Gençay (R.I.P.)
Professor Dr. Ramazan Gençay, who has been missing in
Medellin, Colombia, since 6 December, has been found dead on a
river bank outside the city. The death of Prof. Gençay, who is a
Turk with Canadian citizenship, was confirmed by his wife Carole
Gençay on Facebook.
Prof. Gençay, who taught economics at Simon Frazer University near
Vancouver, had come to Medellin on 28 November for a seminar at
EAFIT University's Economics and Finance Research Center. He was
last seen with a woman at a place where salsa lessons are given (!)
and police determined that his credit card was used on 7-8
December. Quoting police sources, Colombian media outlets have
reported that Gençay's food or drinks may have been spiked.
Getting there requires some fancy steps, too.
