Internet shminternet!
Ahmet Ali Demirel (84), the father of 6 and the grandfather of 32,
lives in Giyimli village in Güce district of Giresun province. Every
day around noon Demirel walks 4 kilometers from home to Güce town
center to read the day's newspapers. Around evening time he walks
back to Giyimli.
Ahhhh the scent of newsprint!
Despite the news being available on radio and TV, Demirel says
he'll never give up newspapers: "I love to read and that's why I still
read the newspapers, in spite of all the other technological developments.
I follow all the domestic and international events each day in the
papers. I walk the steep road through rough terrain with great joy
each day, never getting tired. The excitement of getting the newspapers
keeps me going along the way."
Güce district is at top right-center, a bit south of the Black
Sea coast.
