The 'arazöz' that seems to have wandered off somewhere...
The 'Sayıştay' (Turkey's General Accounting Office) has not been
able to find certain trucks and work machines allocated to the
Güngören municipality in Istanbul. The municipality claims that
"we gave them away and sold them" but there is no record of either.
According to the Sayıştay report, an 'arazöz' (street watering vehicle)
that the municipality claims was sold to the Tanoba municipality in
Tokat province's Erbaa district is nowhere to be found. Officials in
Tanoba told the Sayıştay that "we've never had an 'arazöz' vehicle."
A garbage truck that was supposedly sold to the Kelkit municipality
in Gümüşhane province has been located in a scrap heap in Erzincan.
Recep İvedik, Güngören's most famous resident.
It is noted in the Sayıştay report that "although the Güngören
municipality claims that 9 vehicles were given or sold to other
municipalities, no such records exist. There are absolutely no
records relating to another vehicle. So these 10 vehicles are not
in the Güngören inventory even though they are recorded as being
muncipal assets. It is thought that the legal process should be
initiated about those responsible for these vehicles, whose
whereabouts are unknown."
In response to the Sayıştay report, the Güngören municipality
gave the following statement: "Inventory work has been started
with regard to these vehicles. (!) We have determined that the
Terberg minibus, said to be missing, is currently with the Bakırköy,
Istanbul, municipality." The missing vehicles include one 'arazöz',
3 Mercedes Benz trucks, a Şahin passenger car, an Iveco truck, a
Dodge pick-up truck, a Tofaş Fiat passenger car, a Renault passenger
car and a Terberg minibus.
