Must have wandered off somewhere...
Yemeni Avad Ali Hasan el Masri brought a golden peacock laden with
diamonds and emeralds to Istanbul last March and left it in safekeeping
with a jeweler in the Covered Bazar. El Masri put a video of the
peacock on the internet, asking $2 million for the statue. Last week,
an individual named Abdülhadi K. called El Masri about the peacock.
Abdülhadi K. went to the jeweler in the Covered Bazar with an expert
and after looking at it said he might buy the statue.
El Masri brought the peacock statue to the address in the Esenyurt
section of Istanbul that Abdülhadi had given him. El Masri was
met there by a few individuals, but not Abdülhadi K., who called
El Masri and told him to go to another address with the people who
met him at the first one.
At the second address, someone put a gun to El Masri's head and
took the peacock. El Masri was kicked out of the house and the
individuals disappeared but were later apprehended by police.
In total 12 people were rounded up by police, including Abdülhadi K.,
Hayat T., Seyfettin E., Syrian Muhammed K.S. and Muhammed Ali A.
The base of the peacock statue was recovered by not the peacock
itself.
Coulda been a contender.
