The Bodrum public prosecutor has prepared an indictment regarding
the shooting deaths of bar owner Ali Ekber Surensoy and singer Hacer
Tulu on 21 June 2018. Seven suspects will be tried for the murders.
According to the indictment, Surensoy owned a bar called Meymun
Pera in the Beyoglu district of Istanbul and he seized control of the
bar's front door and vale services from Mustafa Cecen and his cohorts.
This prompted Cecen and his gang to storm Surensoy's bar so
Surensoy had the police come and take them all into custody.
Seeking revenge, Cecen began messaging via WhatsApp with Fatma
Karakoyun, a mutual friend of Cecen and Surensoy, about a plan to
kill Surensoy. The two began following Surensoy's Snap Chat and
Instagram stories and Karakoyun alerted Cecen that "Surensoy's in
Istanbul. I looked at his Snap stories." The two then chatted via
WhatsApp about the best place to shoot Surensoy.
On 12 June 2018, Karakoyun informed Surensoy that "He's posting
Snaps in Istanbul but he's not here. They opened a place in Kurucesme
(also in Istanbul)." Then, on 19 June, Karakoyun sent Cecen a photo
of Surensoy from Bodrum, with the message "he's by himself."
At this point, Cecen and his gang went to Bodrum and began to wait
for Surensoy at a bar he frequented. Early one morning as Surensoy
left the bar, Cecen and three others approached him and said "Come
with us, we've got some business to discuss with you." Surensoy
tried to flee but Cecen shot him 3 or 4 times. Surensoy's friend
Cesur Altinsoz tried to help but he was shot, as well, as Cecen
pumped more bullets into Surensoy to make sure he was dead.
Bar singer Hacer Tulu happened to see the incident and began
screaming. So four of the attackers shot and killed her, too. (!)
