Lots of moving parts to the spell. They didn't account for the
Gendarmerie part.
Yuksel Veli A. works as an auto repairman in Germany but he heard
from friends in Turkey about a buried treasure in Sarikaya village in
Bayramoren district of Cankiri province. However (!), Yuksel bey
also learned that there is a spell on the treasure so he got in touch
with a friend in Germany named Erhan C., who in turn contacted
Isa P. - an expert in breaking spells (!).
The three came to Turkey on 22 October and as part of a group of 8
they went to the treasure site on 24 October. Using an excavator, the
treasure hunters dug a hole 3 meters wide by 5 meters deep. Erhan C.
kept a lookout for the Gendarmerie, while Isa P. continually read
verses from the Koran in an effort to break the spell.
A Gendarmerie patrol spotted the suspicious-looking Erhan C.
and called for reinforcements. Shortly thereafter, the Gendarmerie
picked up brothers Maksut T. and Ali T. in a car at another location.
Meanwhile, 3 of the diggers headed off in another direction, upon
learning that the Gendarmerie was looking for them.
Bayramoren district is in northern Cankiri, SE
of Karabuk.
At 2030 hours, Isa P. called the Gendarmerie, saying that he had
lost track of Erhan C., who Isa P. said had come to the area to gather
mushrooms (!). The Gendarmerie then picked up Isa P. at the
village he made the call from. An hour earlier the village chief of
Harmancik village had called the Gendarmerie to report three
people who asked for directions. Subsequently, a car in which
Umit S., Ozkan S. and Teyip T. were riding was stopped and the
3 were taken into custody.
At the Gendarmerie outpost, the suspects claimed not to know
one another but the Gendarmerie accessed their WhatsApp group
chats and viewed video from a highway rest stop where the group
had gathered prior to digging for the treasure. A search of the
suspects' cars produced 13 rings and 63 coins. The detector and
back-hoe used for the dig were recovered. The 8 suspects were
charged with violating the Culture & Nature Law and jailed.
This could be the sequel the Coen's are no doubt looking
for.
