about a murder in Istanbul with eerie parallels.
In Buca, Izmir, at about 8 o'clock in the morning the day before
yesterday, Büşra Yabaşkul (22) came face to face with Orkun Çevik,
whom Büşra hanım had divorced two months ago after two years of
marriage. An argument ensued in the middle of the street. Çevik first
beat his former wife before pulling a 'pompalı tüfek' (pump-action
rifle) out from under his coat and shooting her.
Büşra hanım died at the hospital and Çevik was taken into custody.
It turned out that Çevik's mother Deniz had been killed by her
husband Ferdi Çevik when Çevik was 5-years-old. Father Ferdi had
also killed his wife with a 'pompalı tüfek'. Ferdi Çevik is still in
jail. When Büşra and Orkun Çevik had a baby girl in 2017, the
girl was named Deniz, after Çevik's mother.
Şengül Kahramaner, the neighborhood chief of Ulubatlı quarter in
Buca, claimed that Orkun Çevik "is a drug addict and doesn't have
a job so Büşra divorced him. We're very sad that such an incident
has happened in our neighborhood. No one should die like that.
Orkun's father did the same thing to his mother but Orkun went to
see his father in jail often."
Büşra hanım's family donated her corneas before she was buried in
Toros Cemetery.

'Budscha', located southeast of the city center.
