Adana Mayor Hüseyin Sözlü wants the New York Metropolitan
Museum of Art to return the 4,000-year-old statue of Hemşire
Satsneferu, which was stolen from an excavation in the Tepebağ
section of Adana, where the American Montgomery Mission
missionary building was being built in 1882. According to Mayor
Sözlü, the Metropolitan Museum accepted the statue in 1918 and
it is currently on exhibit in the museum's "Gallery 3".

The black statue, which is 39 centimeters (15.3 inches) high, dates
to the 12th Kingdom of the Egyptian Middle Dynasty of 2,000 B.C.
Missing pieces of the mosaic "Çingene Kız" (Gypsy Girl) of Zeugma
Antique City in Gaziantep, were returned to Turkey by Bowling Green
University of Ohio in November 2018.
