"Beat & Release": Visitors to Istanbul Might Want to Avoid the "Ruby Nightclub"

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 26 September 2022)

This is not the club's floor show.  Just the warm-up act.

In Ortaköy, Istanbul, bouncers at the Ruby nightclub denied entry to
three people, setting off a night of mayhem.  Mesut B., Recep Ç. and
İnci Cennet E. went to the Ruby nightclub on the night of 8 September
but were denied entry by the club's bouncers.  An argument ensued and
one of the three headbutted a bouncer. A group of 10 bouncers then beat
the living daylights out of the three.

The same night at about 3 in the morning, 4 people on two motorcycles
came to the Ruby nightclub and fired on the bouncers.  In the subsequent
battle, Ferdi K., Şehmuz Y. and Selman Ç., who had come on the
motorcycles, were slightly wounded, as was bouncer Zeki P.

Police took 9 people from the two groups into custody and it was
determined that those who came on the motorcycles were the brothers
and friends of Recep Ç., who had been denied entry and beaten earlier.
The four motorcycle-born attackers were jailed, as was bouncer Zeki P.
Another bouncer, Mesut G. was placed under house arrest.

The night before last, Mesut E. and İnci Cennet E. gave statements at
the Beşiktaş police station and filed complaints about having been beaten
when they tried to enter the nightclub.  This complaint prompted police
to take bouncer Ferhat A. into custody.

It's very nice, if you can get in.

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 24 September 2022)

He insisted on signing in mud, instead of ink.

Yesterday at around noon in the Merkez neighborhood of Espiye
district in Giresun province, Nuri Çamur (whose surname means "mud")
went to the home of his brother-in-law to talk with his wife Dilek Çamur,
who had filed for divorce from him.  Predictably, an argument arose and
Dilek hanım's sister Ayşe Kılıç and the brother-in-law's wife Damla
Çubukçu sought to intervene.

However (!), Çamur pulled out a revolver and shot the three women.
He then turned the gun on himself and pulled the trigger.  Police arrived
at the scene and the women were taken to a hospital where they all died.
Çamur remains under treatment in the hospital.

Ayşe Taş, who has a shop on the street where the incident occurred,
heard the shots and then saw one of the women tumble down the
entrance staircase with a bloodied two-and-a-half-year-old boy in her
arms.  Ayşe hanım said that Dilek hanım had come to her older brother's
house to escape from Çamur.

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 23 September 2022)

Possession is nine-tenths of the law.

In Istanbul's Başakşehir and Küçükçekmece districts, Güven Güler
killed three people and wounded four others, two of them policemen.
After his capture, Güler explained in his statement that "I was shot
about 3 or 4 months ago and since that day I began to see the chief of
an evil spirit tribe named Hannas.  The one who committed these
crimes was Hannas, not me.  I reject the accusations against me."

Those who aided Güler in his crimes were Onur Saygun, Nevzat
Aslan, Uğur U., Ferdi Taşdemir and Atilla Ü. (17), all of whom
were arraigned in the Küçükçekmece courthouse.  Saygun was
released after giving a statement, while the others were jailed.

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 21 September 2022)

This is what passes for a routine traffic stop around here :(

Yesterday at about 5 o'clock in the evening in Ümraniye, Istanbul, police
stopped a suspicious vehicle and wanted to ban it from the streets because
the car was under a sequestration order.

However, driver Yavuz Genç took great exception to this and set the car
on fire. (!)  Genç and his friend A.G. also attacked the policemen and
firemen who tried to put the fire out.  A.G. knocked one policeman
to the ground and kicked him, as Genç continued to attack with a knife.

The police fired warning shots in the air but when Genç persisted he
was shot and died in a hospital.  Three people were injured by ricocheting
bullets.  A.G. was taken into custody.

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 21 September 2022)

                          The dog's the lucky one.

Lawyer Kübra Oktay, who is known for her animal advocacy, adopted
a puppy left at an animal shelter in Ordu and named the dog "Romeo".
However, when Kübra hanım took Romeo to the vet the dog was found
to have Parvovisus.  With treatment, Romeo recovered but then died
from another disease.

Kübra hanım informed her supporters via social media of Romeo's
passing but Sinem Umaş responded that Kübra hanım was to blame
for Romeo's death, writing: "based on what we have learned, the dog
was injected with needles without understanding what the problem
was.  The poor animal moaned all night before dying.  But where is
Kübra? She's in Bodrum and putting on a show with her videos!"

Kübra hanım's lawyer filed this complaint against Sinem hanım:
"Sinem Umaş is clearly subjecting my client to psychological
harm and causing irreparable damage to her reputation.  We suspect
that Sinem Umaş has mental problems and ask that she be sent to
the forensic medicine institute for a determination of her mental
state."

"Beat & Release": Her "Suicide" Attempt Fails, Suspect Boyfriend Goes Free (twice!) but Now in Jail.

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 18 September 2022)

His slogan was "Hey, I can't get arrested!". Until now.

In the Kavaklıdere neighborhood of Ankara's Çankaya district, nightclub
singer Ebru Sultan Bozdağ (32) was brought to a hospital on the morning
of 5 September by her boyfriend Hasan Karabudak (26) and his father.
Karabudak claimed to the hospital police that Ebru Sultan hanım
attempted suicide because he wanted to break up with her and that the
gun she was holding went off when he tried to take it from her. (!)

Karabudak was released by the police after giving his statement but
following treatment, Ebru Sultan hanım stated that Karabudak had
become jealous of nightclub patrons who admired her and the couple
argued: "he threatened to kill me and my family and started to beat me.
Then he took out a gun from his waist, grabbed me by my neck, and
shot me from behind my back.  He took me to the bathroom but the
bleeding wouldn't stop so he took me to his father's house.  Still, the
bleeding wouldn't stop so they brought me to the hospital."

Subsequently, Karabudak was taken into custody again and repeated
his first statement about "suicide".  The court noted that Karabudak
was not a flight risk and the need remained to gather more evidence and
determined who fired the gun.  So he was released again. (!)

However, the public prosecutor objected to the release and a higher
court decided that Karabudak should be arrested for attempted murder
and he was put in prison to await trial.

"Beat & Release": Yet Another Wife Commits "Suicide", While Suspect Hubby Goes Free

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 15 September 2022)

Suicide by self-inflicted stabbings. And I've got a bridge to
sell you, he says.

In Kahramanmaraş on 17 November 2021, Sevgi Gevşek (27) was
brought to a hospital with stab wounds in her stomach.  En route to
the hospital, Sevgi hanım, when asked how she was wounded, said
"I stabbed myself." (!)

Sevgi hanım died on 23 November and in connection with the related
investigation, her husband Durdu Gevşek (28) was taken into custody.
Gevşek claimed that Sevgi hanım had grabbed a knife from the kitchen
and stabbed herself.  Nevertheless, he was charged with killing his wife
and put on trial for a life sentence.

The prosecutor's indictment stated that "the deceased could
not possibly have stabbed herself three times in the stomach in a
suicide attempt."  Gevşek refuted the charges against him in court and
the committee of judges ruled that there was not enough concrete
evidence to convict Gevşek so he, along with his father İ.G. and friend
B.A., were acquitted.  (!)

One member of the judges committee filed a dissent, stating that Gevşek
should be jailed for murder and İ.G: and B.A. jailed for destroying
evidence.

Serbian Drug Mafia Chieftan Rubbed Out in Istanbul

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 10 September 2022)

Was hoping to catch Scorsese's eye for his next film.

Jovan Vukotiç, the leader of the Serbian drug mafia gang Skaljari,
was driving with his wife and children in the Mecidiyeköy section of
Şişli, Istanbul, the day before yesterday when two people on a motorcycle
came alongside his car and shot Vukotiç five times.  The assailants fled
and Vukotiç died from his wounds.

Vukotiç, sought by Interpol with a red bulletin for drug dealing, was
arrested in Antalya in 2018 and deported. He spent 15 months in prison
in Serbia and upon his release he fled to Istanbul with a fake ID.

Vukotiç's Skaljari gang was at odds with another Serbian gang, the
Kavaka group.  The two gangs were engaged in an ongoing battle over
300 kilograms of  cocaine that disappeared in the Spanish port of
Valencia in 2014.

There's no such thing as bad publicity but you gotta stay
alive to be a movie star.

"Beat & Release": She Gets 'Honor Beating' and They Get Released, in Istanbul

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 5 September 2022)

As brother recorded defender-of-honor in action, so did a
security camera.  Nevertheless, they both walked away free.

In Ümraniye, Istanbul, Funda Altinyay (36), the mother of two children,
was followed for 10 months by her estranged husband Ferit Altınyay
and his brother Yusuf Altınyay.  When Funda hanım chatted with Ö.Ş.
as she waited to pick up her children from a course, the brothers,
enraged that Funda hanım was talking with a man, attacked her with a
metal bar and then attacked Ö.Ş.

Funda hanım stayed in a hospital for 6 days and had to have a metal
plate set in her broken arm.  Based on her complaint, the brothers were
taken into custody but released after giving statements. (!)

Funda hanım lamented that "I suffered continual violence for four years.
He beat me with a bat and choked my neck with a belt.  I took refuge in
a women's shelter for a while for the safety of myself and the children.
He made an immoral proposal to me: 'I'm going to bring home my
friend who's a security guard and introduce him to you.'  I told his uncle
about this but the uncle came and scolded me, saying 'this matter is
closed! If you talk about it people will die.'"

As for the attack on her with the metal bar, Funda hanım said that "I
had quite a headache when I brought my child to school so I sat in
the garden of the village chief's office next to the school.  A fellow
stopped and asked me if I was alright.  My estranged husband and his
brother were following me all the time, saying 'If you leave the house
we'll cripple you, kill you.'  On the day of this incident, they said to me
"you are still representing our honor. How could you speak to another
man?!  You've dishonored us!'  Then he hit me with the metal bar and
his brother hit me in the face."

"Beat & Release": The Devil as Both Cause and Effect in Woman's Murder, in Aydın

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Cumhuriyet Newspaper, 3 September 2022)

                         Devil-may-care kinda guy.

In Aydın's Koçarlı district, M.A. (33) cut the throat of his wife of two
months, Nejla Aydoğdu (32), explaining that "I went to Ankara on 29
August.  My aim was to tell the officials at the 'külliye' (possibly
meaning the presidential palace) that the vaccine is a part of a devilish
trick.  By getting the vaccine, my wife became a part of this devilish
trick.  I told her she had to choose between right and the devil.  In
response, she said 'God brought us together. I'm always with you.'"

"So I said 'let's leave everything and live in my grandfather's country
house.'  She agreed.  On the day of the incident, we went there in a
minibus.  We got off the bus and chatted as we walked.  My wife took
an apple and ate it lustfully.  I said to her 'eat the apple as God meant it
to be eaten!'.  Then we gathered purslane from the garden and as we
were eating it she said to me 'did you go to the 'külliye' with provocation
in mind?'  Whatever happened took place at that moment.  I attacked her
with a knife. My aim was not to kill her but to prove my point." (!)

The incident occurred in Satılar village's Demiroluk pasture on
Wednesday, 31 August, in the evening.  M.A. was arrested by the
Gendarmerie and jailed in Aydin city.

"Beat & Release": Alphabetical Mayhem at Manavgat State Hospital, in Antalya

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 1 September 2022)

Get in line in alphabetical order.

Three people injured in a traffic accident in Antalya's Manavgat district
were stabbed at a hospital by their enemy N.G., who also wounded a
Gendarmerie soldier.  N.G. and her husband U.G. were caught by police.

Two families in Manavgat, previously related by marriage, had a falling-
out and became enemies.  Last Saturday M.D. opened fire on T.G. of
the opposing family, who was in his car, with a 'pompalı tüfenk' (pump-
action rifle).  T.G. was taken to Manavgat State Hospital for treatment
for the wounds and M.D. was taken into custody by the Gendarmerie.

The day before yesterday at around noon Ç.K. (29), M.D. (31) and Ş.D.
(71) were involved in a traffic accident at the Kumköy Tourism Center
and were taken to Manavgat State Hospital for treatment.  N.G., the
older sister of T.G., came to this hospital to see her brother and learned
that enemies Ç.K., M.D. and Ş.D. were there, too.  (!)

N.G. went to the emergency room where Ç.K. was waiting in the
tomography section and stabbed him.  Then, N.G. tracked down M.D.
and Ş.D. in other sections of the hospital and knifed them, too,
stabbing a Gendarmerie soldier who was trying to intervene, as well.
Ç.K.'s condition was said to be serious.

About an hour later police nabbed N.G. and her husband U.G. after
they had fled the scene.
