                                          Golden Girl.

In Trabzon, Dr. Burcu Bulut K. and Dr. Ümit K. married on 11
September.  However, on 25 September their families argued about
sharing the gold the couple received at the wedding.  As a result, the
bride's father, retired soldier Basri B., shot the groom, the groom's father
Hasan (53), mother Meryem (53) and sister Edanur K. (25). (!)

Basri B. explained that "when I heard that the groom's family wanted
the gold they got at the wedding I said 'the gold should stay with my
daughter!'  When they came after me I shot them.

As for bride Burcu Bulut hanım, she has started divorce proceedings,
saying "we started arguing because my husband's family was meddling
with us.  They wanted the gold from the wedding.  My husband said
'whatever my family wants is what will happen.' "

"On the day of the incident, my father-in-law said during the argument
'it's my house, get out!'  A fight broke out and my father tried to intervene
by firing his gun at the floor 5-6 times, injuring my husband and his family.
My mother-in-law Meryem attacked me so I got in my car and left to get
over the stress."

(BirGün website, 28 September 2021)

                                       Happy ending.

In İnegöl district of Bursa, Beyhan Mutlu (50 and whose surname means
"happy") got separated from his drinking buddies and got lost in the
forest.

However, when Mutlu encountered the searchers looking for him
in the forest, he assumed the search was for someone else so he joined in
to help out.  But when one of the searchers yelled out his name, the
startled Mutlu responded "here I am!" and the search was happily
concluded.

Mutlu had gone to drink with his pals in Çayyaka village during the
night and then headed home.  But a little while later when his friends
returned to the village they encountered Mutlu's wife who said she
had not heard from him.  Thinking that Mutlu was lost in the forest,
the Gendarmerie was alerted.

In addition to the Gendarmerie, UMKE and İNDAK search teams
were brought in to look for Mutlu.  Eventually, Mutlu ran into the
searchers and one of them told him they were looking for a lost man.
So Mutlu decided to join the search and help out. (!)

But when one of the searchers yelled out "Beyhan Mutlu", the
startled Mutlu cried out "Here I am!".  He then gave a statement
and was taken home.

Nickname was "Killer" during playing days. Hmmmm.

Former football player Sezer Öztürk is being sought for murder.  Öztürk
at various times played for Manisaspor, Fenerbahçe, Beşiktaş and
Başakşehir.

On 19 September, Öztürk got into an argument with Halil İbrahim
Scholten (24) in Şili, Istanbul.  The argument escalated into a fight,
after which Öztürk fired on Scholten and his family from the window
of his car.  Five people were hospitalized and Öztürk fled, along with
an individual named Ö.G.   Another of Öztürk's friends, A.M., turned
himself into the police.

Scholten died at the hospital.  Meanwhile, the public prosecutor issued
a warrant for Öztürk's arrest for "intentional murder" and stated in the
indictment that "the car with German-registered license plate BI OD 2828
is owned by O.D., who went to Germany at the end of August and turned
over the vehicle to Sezer Öztürk."

Bulked up and planned on switching to American football.

According to the public prosecutor's announcement, A.M. surrendered to
police on 20 September and was jailed.  Öztürk and Ö.G. remain on the
lam and warrants have been issued for their arrest.

"Beat & Release": Abducted Child Bride & the Maniac Who Kidnapped Her, Again

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 27 September 2021)

Traveling man and the obsession he loves to hate.

Şilan Narman was living in Istanbul and just 13-years-old when she met
Mithat Topal and they became friends.  However, Topal threatened her,
saying that "you have five older brothers. I'm going to tell them what
we've been doing.", and he took her to Bingöl in eastern Anatolia, where
the two hid out in a village and Topal became a shepherd.

Eventually, the two families came to an agreement and Şilan married
Topal.  But although the rift between the families had mended, Şilan's
relationship with Topal never did.  He would beat her for invented
reasons like "why did you go outside?" or "you didn't turn the herd the
right way."  As time went by, the level of the beatings' violence increased
to the point that some days Şilan could not walk but, nevertheless, she
never saw a doctor or went to a hospital.

Thinking that having a child might change Topal's behavior, Şilan gave
birth but the beatings continued.  Topal was then convicted of using
narcotics and he became even more aggressive.  He tied Şilan up and put
a bag over her head, stepping on her hands and feet.  The next day, Şilan
got a medical report and filed a complaint against Topal but rescinded it a
few days later.

As the beatings continued, Şilan filed another complaint and the court
put Topal in jail.  At this point, Şilan fled Bingöl and took refuge in a
women's shelter.  But wherever she went, be it Istanbul, be it Bilecik,
Topal tracked her down and continued with his threats.  He told Şilan
in a message that "if you leave me I'll take your little sister.  You've
passed 18, so I need someone younger.  I'll blow up your house with
dynamite."

Şilan filed for divorce and asked for custody of their child and
100,000 TL (about $10,000) in compensation.  The court decided to
put an electronic tracking device on Topal and forbade him from coming
within 950 meters of Şilan.  However, on 10 September Topal kidnapped
Şilan, even though he had the tracking device on his foot. Şilan was
rescued in a police operation and is currently at an undisclosed location,
waiting for her nightmare to end.

"Holy Man" Exorcized Women's "Evil Sprits" With Rape and Blackmail, in Fethiye

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 26 September 2021)

Policeman inoculated against evil spirits makes
the arrest.

Bahadır Koyuncu was taken into custody by police in Fethiye, Muğla
province, after videos were discovered on his computer of women he
forced into sexual relations on the pretext of ridding them of evil
spirits (!).  Koyuncu's assistants A.Ç. and Ş.K. were also taken into
custody but released on judicial supervision.

In statements from Koyuncu's victims, they said that they had sought
help for psychological problems they were experiencing from this
"holy man".  In their initial consultations with Koyuncu, he told the
women that their bodies had been seized by evil spirits.  In subsequent
visits to Koyuncu, the women were forced to have sexual relations
with him "in order to expel the evil spirits."

However (!), Koyuncu secretly recorded these trysts for blackmail
purposes. One woman stated that "with the blackmail videos he forced
us to have sex with him again.  We couldn't tell anyone about it. He
even came to our house."

Police searched Koyuncu's home and work place, finding two
unlicensed revolvers, on blank-shooting revolver, handcuffs, four
ungrooved rifles and 87 rifle bullets, a detector and 20 coins of
historic value.

Also found were 5 rings, 5 objects, a Koran and ox horns, frog skins,
and symbols used in the "spell-casting" and "evil sprits expelling"
sessions, along with liquids, tarot cards, written charms and various
books used in the rituals.

Uninsulated electrical wires to blame  :(

A forest eagle with a tracking device put on it by BSPB, bird-lover
organization Birdlife's Bulgarian partner, has been found dead in
Erdoğdu village in Turkey's Konya province.  The eagle crashed
into an electrical wire with no insulation.

The eagle, which left its nest two months ago, was being tracked
in connection with an investigation into the factors threatening species
with a migration route in Bulgaria.

Bulgarian bird experts suspected that the bird had died because the
tracking signal was coming from the same place continually.  So
they contacted Cansu Özcan, an expert Turkish biologist known for
her work on eagles.  In turn, Özcan got in touch with İbrahim Soner
Güzel, a local bird watcher, and local hunting groups.

A team then went to the spot of the signal and found the eagle lying
dead under an electrical tower.  Many other birds have died because
of the electric wires in the area.  Özcan explained that 73% of the small
forest eagles in the world are found in Europe and they mate in Turkey.
She noted that "the primary factor threatening this species are the
uninsulated electrical wires."

with their 9-year-old child.  A few days ago the child was diagnosed with

An  argument ensued and Ahmet bey began to beat Nuran hanım, who
grabbed a knife and stabbed her husband in the chest.  He died at a

"Beat & Release": After Stabbing Her 104 Times, He Takes a Smoke Break

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 23 September 2021)

            Angelic survivor.

On 29 August in Izmir's Buca district, drug addict Feyzi Duran (28) had
an argument with his live-in girlfriend Aysel Pergün (28), sparked by
jealousy.  As the argument ensued, Duran beat Aysel hanım and broke
a whisky bottle over her head, in front of their one-year-old child.  Next,
Duran stabbed Aysel hanım 104 times (!) in the bathroom.  Her cries
prompted neighbors to call the police and Aysel hanım was brought to
a hospital, where it was determined that eight of the stab wounds were
life-threatening.

Duran was jailed and (somehow!) Aysel hanım recovered.  She and her
family took the son back from Duran's family on 1 September.  Aysel
hanım explained that "He closed the window shutters so no one could
see from the outside and I saw that he had two knives in his waist.  He
looked at me with a monstrous gaze and broke a whisky bottle over
my head.  Then he forced me into the bathroom and I tried to protect
my throat and my aorta.  As he was stabbing me I began to lose
consciousness but I heard him say 'I told you I'd watch you die and
now I'm doing it.'"

                         Devil incarnate.

"Then he lit a cigarette.  Someone who heard my screams came but
fled, with Feyzi chasing him and beating him.  He put my child on
my lap and said 'take the kid. I'm no longer looking after him.'  My
mother-in-law came and they closed the door so no one could see me.
He smoked another cigarette and cut my hair.  I want him to be
punished with the biggest penalty.  Every time I look in the mirror I
relive the horror.  I have hose and knife scars on my back.  He didn't
just stab me, he sliced me up."

Samsun Finance Chief's "Tea" Dependency Leads to "Rehab" in Jail

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Sözcü Newspaper, 19 September 2021)

                                 Portrait of a tea addict.

Bahattin K., the head of the financial services office in the AKP (ruling
party) Samsun municipality, has been jailed after being caught red-handed
taking bribes.  Building contractor Y.T. received extra or early payments
from the municipality thanks to Bahattin K.  In return, Y.T. sent the bribe
money to Bahattin K. inside packages of tea (!) and paid for his vacation
expenses, too.

Bahattin K. started his career as an official in the Evci municipality in
Samsun's Terme district.  After about 20 years in various jobs in different
district municipalities, Bahattin K. was brought into the Samsun
municipality by the newly-elected AKP Mayor Mustafa Demir.

As the director of financial services, Bahattin K. was caught red-handed
by police while taking a bribe from Y.T. on 22 December 2020.  Both of
the suspects were jailed.  In his statement, Bahattin K. asserted that the
30,000 TL (about $4,000) he got from Y.K. was a loan, not a bribe (!).
However, Y.K. admitted that he did, in fact, pay bribes to Bahattin K.
and a month later he was released from jail.

The public prosecutor prepared an indictment for both Bahattin K. and
Y.T., in regard to taking and giving bribes, as well as for laundering the
value of the money obtained criminally.  But the court did not accept
the indictment and sent the file back to the prosecutor, who then pursued
a separate case against Bahattin K. for hiding the value of property
obtained criminally.  A new indictment about the bribery matter was
accepted by the court.

According to the indictment, police surveilled Bahattin K. and Y.T.
technically and physically, determining that they met twice.  On 23 October
2020, the two met at a café in İlkadım district, after which Y.T. put two
packages of tea into Bahattin K.'s car.  The prosecutor alleged in the
indictment that the packages of tea contained the bribe money.  The two
suspects met again on 21 December 2020 and as they chatted in
Bahattin K.'s car, tea packages containing 30,000 TL were seized by
police staking out the meeting.  A search of the safe in Bahattin K.'s
office revealed tea packages filled with money.

Actually, a treasure trove of valuable items poured out from the safe in
Bahattin K. office.  Inside tea packages police found 135,000 Euros,
36,000 TL, 5 kilograms of gold including a one-kilogram ingot, 13
special-issue gold coins, 75 full pieces of gold, 50 half pieces and 1,059
quarter pieces, 23 bank account books from various banks in the name
of himself and 8 other individuals, along with about 40 real estate deeds.
The bank accounts were blocked by the prosecutor.

Bahattin K. and Y.T.'s conversations were monitored by police and on
21 December 2020 Y.T. called Bahattin K., saying that he was in Samsun
and wanted to visit him.   The two then met in front of a shopping center
after Bahattin K.'s work day ended:

Y.T.: your tea is in the car.
Bahattin K.: so nice of you.
Y.T.: tomorrow send me a 500. If you can, send a 600.
Bahattin K.: OK, I'll make it happen.
Y.T.: That would be great.  There's 30,000 TL there, inside the thing.
Bahattin K.: OK
Y.T.: I'll probably come next week.
Bahattin K.: Let's say I can do a little better. In that case, would you be
a bit more supportive?
Y.T.: Yes, but when I come next week.

Also contained in the indictment was information about Bahattin K.
going on a vacation to İkizdere district in Rize province with his family
six days after this conversation occurred.  Bahattin K. and his family
stayed at a hotel in İkizdere for three days.  Y.K. made the reservation
and Bahattin K. left without paying.  Two days later Y.T.'s construction
firm paid the 5,977 TL hotel bill.

Bahattin K. is being tried while in jail and faces a sentence of from
four to twelve years for bribery.

Sabri Çelebi first gained infamy as "Palalı Sabri" (Sabri with scimitar)
during the disturbances at Gezi Park in Istanbul in 2013.  He lived in
Miami for a while and is back in the news now because of a noteworthy
investigation that is underway.  Çelebi is charged with forcing Moroccan
women into prostitution at his nightclubs in Istanbul, which were raided
by police on 10 September.

The raids occurred at 3 o'clock in the morning and Çelebi's brother
Mehmet Emin Çelebi (25) was taken into custody along with six other
people.  At the Opera Club Pera nightclub in Beyoğlu, owned by the
Çelebi family, 45 Moroccan women (!) were taken into custody.  Another
17 Moroccan women were arrested at Çelebi's other nightclubs and all
62 women were sent to the Illegal Immigration Task Force-Border Gates
Directorate building in Pendik, Istanbul.

                           Her majesty, in happier days.

In his statement to police, Mehmet Emin Çelebi asserted that he was
being slandered and that the women were customers (!) at his nightclub.
One of these 'customers' was Fatima Zahra El Guiraa (24) who was
chosen as the Africa Beauty Queen in 2015.  She told her lawyer that
"I live in Turkey. I have a boyfriend who is a businessman.  I don't
know these people (Çelebi's).  I just went there to have a good time."

Five Istanbul policemen involved in the Çelebi investigation were also
arrested.  The police are charged with demanding $100,000 from the
spouse of a Chinese national arrested in the raid for the release of his
wife.  One of the policemen arrested is Serkan Gül, who lead the police
team investigating the Çelebi's. (!)

An Istanbul court had Mehmet Emin Çelebi, Vedat Özbağ (47) and

On Sunday aboard the ferry that left Yenikapı in Istanbul headed for

sexually harassed G.Ş. (33) who was asleep in the seat next to him.
When G.Ş. awoke in a panic, Yıldırım fled to the floor below in the

When G.Ş. related what had happened to her, some passengers went
down after Yıldırım, collared him and delivered him to the ferry's
security guard.  The ferry then changed course and docked at a pier
in Armutlu district of Yalova province, where Yıldırım was taken into

It turned out that Yıldırım was wanted by police for sexual harassment

ferry incident, as well.  After being held at the Gemlik courthouse,
Yıldırım was sent to the Bursa Prison.

In her statement to police, G. Ş. explained that while sitting next to

Don't Drink the Water! But They Do Anyway, in Muş

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 14 September 2021)

                                             Cheers!

Despite the determination that water in Gümüşali village 40 kilometers
from Muş in eastern Anatolia is filled with microbes, people from all
over Turkey continue to flock there to drink it based on the claim that
the water dissolves kidney stones. (!)

The Health Directorate analyzed the water and found it to be unfit for
drinking but people continue to drink it and fill containers to bring
home.  For example, Nedim Kaplan came from Bitlis to drink and said
that "there are those who say it's beneficial.  The experts say otherwise
but there are many who say it is healthy."  Sicracettin Babura from
Istanbul declared that "I'm drinking this water and my kidney stones
are disappearing."  Cahit Sezgin from Kahramanmaraş also said he
thought the water would be healthy for kidney stones.

On the other hand, Dr. Rıfat Somay, an expert in infectious diseases
and clinical microbiology at Muş State Hospital, explained that "the
water in Muş that some people claim cures kidney stones is actually
filled with microbes, bacteria and parasites, based on our analysis.  So
people who drink it thinking it's good for kidney stones are actually
poisoning themselves.  After they drink it we see many incidents of
diarrhea, vomiting, serious body fluid loss and kidney failure. Even
death."

wife and their 2-year-old daughter to go to a park in the Kağıthane district
of the city.  On İmrahor Avenue in the Merkez neighborhood, Balkoca's

throw a brick through the car window.  In the course of his attack, Kurt
shouted that he was the chief of staff to Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu,
but it turned out that he is a bus driver for the city's IETT transportation

Balkoca's horrified wife Dilan had the presence of mind to video Kurt's

                                    Coffee, tea or me...

A woman named B.A. went to Antalya on a two-day business trip and
stayed in the Green Beyza Suites hotel there.  However (!), during the
night she was awakened by someone touching her leg and saw that
hotel worker E.A. (no relation, one hopes) was masturbating.  B.A.
screamed in vain for help but somehow succeeded in getting E.A.
out of her room.

Right away, B.A. called hotel reception to relate what had happened.
The receptionist confirmed that E.A. was a hotel employee and that
he was presently watering the lawn (!).  Ten minutes later the receptionist
went to B.A.'s room with a glass of water to calm her down.  B.A. then
called the police and did not leave her room until they arrived.  She
filed a complaint with the police against E.A. for sexual assault and
against the receptionist and the hotel owner for not taking the necessary
security measures.

E.A. was taken into custody but released on judicial supervision (!).
In his statement to the police, E.A. admitted that he had entered B.A.'s
room via the sliding glass balcony door.  He claimed that he thought
that as he was passing by the room B.A. wanted his help so he went
in.  He denied the masturbation charge but conceded that he had
touched B.A.'s knee in an effort to determine whether she was okay or
not.  At that moment, B.A. woke up and chased him from the room.
He asserted that he had not sexually harassed B.A.

Çakın as the person who brought her there. Taken into custody, Çakın
explained that "I found the woman injured on the road so I stopped a
passing car and took her to the hospital."

Based on Çakın's information, police went to Eski Edirne Asfaltı Avenue
and by talking with shopkeepers and looking at video they determined
the point where Cemile hanım got into the car.  There were some
indistinct blood drops on the pavement, which police followed to a
nearby apartment house.  Using ultraviolet sensing devices, police
found "cleaned" bloodstains inside the building that led them to a third-
floor flat, which was empty.

A locksmith opened the door to the flat and again, using ultraviolet
sensing devices, the police found a "cleaned" pool of  blood, along
with two bullet empty bullet shells and bullet ricochet marks on the
wall.  Looking at video from a shop across the street, police saw
that Çakın had lied to them and that when Cemile hanım was taken
from the apartment building she was accompanied by two women
and two men.

In the course of cross-examinations, the individuals gave their names
and related what happened.  Tuğba Can, Aysun Çelebi anbd Servet
Sürücü were taken into custody but Nusret Tekin was missing.  It
turned out that during an argument between Tekin and Sürücü,
Cemile hanım was killed.  Çelebi, Can, Sürücü and Çakın were
jailed.

Tekin (39), who has been in and out of jail often and has a record of
25 criminal convictions, was captured with his gun the night before
last.  He explained to the public prosecutor that "I had an argument
with a fellow I've been at odds with and he said some things that
made me pull out my gun.  Then I calmed down but he said 'If a
real man pulls out his gun, he fires it!'  So I took it out again and
when he hit my arm the gun went off and a bullet hit Cemile."
Tekin was jailed on the charge of "intentional murder".
