(Hürriyet Newspaper, 31 December 2025)

Fan leader: one of the most dangerous occupations in Turkey.

In Istanbul's Üsküdar district, at around 4:00 AM yesterday, İbrahim
Gümüştekin, one of the Fenerbahçe fan leaders, was attacked by
unidentified individuals with automatic rifles and handguns as he
entered his hotel in his car.  Gümüştekin was seriously injured after
being hit by five bullets (!).

Investigations by police who arrived after the report revealed that
19 bullets had hit Gümüştekin's car and that 30 empty shell casings
from an automatic rifle and a pistol were found at the scene (!)
While Gümüştekin's treatment continues in the hospital, police have
launched an operation to apprehend the fleeing suspects.

Gümüştekin was also the victim of an armed attack last year.
Allegedly, members of a criminal organization seeking to seize
control of the fan group opened fire with long-barreled weapons at a
parking lot in Kuzguncak on January 11, 2024, while Gümüştekin
was present. Şükrü Can Köseoğlu, who was also in the parking lot,
lost his life in the attack. Following the incident, 9 suspects were
detained; 3 were arrested, while 6 were released under judicial
supervision.

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 25 December 2025)

AI made him buy the fancy white t-shirt too.

The trial of Eren Uzuner, who killed two people and injured three others,
including a police officer, in the Süleymanpaşa district of Tekirdağ, has
begun. In court, Eren Uzuner claimed that his mind was being read by
artificial intelligence and his thoughts were being sold to singers (!).

In an incident that occurred on October 4, 2024, in the Süleymanpaşa
district of Tekirdağ, Eren Uzuner targeted Fatma Özdemir, whom he
had long harbored a platonic love for, with a gun while she was
sitting in a tea shop. Uzuner first shot Barkın Perçin, who was sitting
next to her, and then shot Fatma Özdemir. Following the incident,
the suspect went to the Evkur store where he worked and wounded
his colleagues with the gun. He also wounded a police officer while
fleeing.

                     The go-to culprit-alibi henceforth.

The trial, held at the Tekirdağ 2nd High Criminal Court, was attended
by the detained defendant Eren Uzuner via the Sound and Video
Information System (SEGBİS), while the plaintiffs and their lawyers
were present in the courtroom.

In his defense, the defendant Uzuner claimed that his mind was being
read by artificial intelligence and that his thoughts were being sold to
singers.   Stating that he harbored feelings for Fatma Özdemir, the
defendant said, "They constantly humiliated and mocked me, I
questioned the reason and learned that they were reading my mind
with artificial intelligence. I couldn't withstand the psychological
pressure and committed the act." (!)

Speaking in court, Selen Özdemir, the sister of the deceased Fatma
Özdemir, stated that the defendant had previously made threats and
demanded the harshest possible sentence. S.D., N.Ç.K., and police
officer Ö.K., who were injured in the armed attack, also stated that
the defendant acted with monstrous intent and demanded a heavy
sentence.

"Demolish & Release": Illegal Shops and Cafés on "American Island" Torn Down Amid Chaos, in Adana

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 24 December 2025)

                          Trump sending the marines!

In Adana's Çukurova region, dozens of illegal structures have been
built over the years on Menderes Island, also known as the
"American Island,"  (!) in the Seyhan Dam Lake. These illegal
businesses, mostly selling the city's unique "bici bici" dessert and
"salep" (a hot drink made from milk and spices), have extended
their wooden extensions, even reaching onto the lake itself. The
municipality has attempted to demolish these businesses at various
times, but this has been prevented by armed resistance and protests
from some individuals.

Over the years, the boulevards surrounding the lake were renovated,
new roads were opened, and luxury buildings were constructed, but
the island's appearance remained the same. Drug-related incidents
and public order problems on the island have also drawn criticism.

American Island (!)

The persistence of unlicensed business owners in the high-value real
estate area, who lure visitors to their establishments through touting,
has further increased complaints. Following initiatives by the Adana
Governorship, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Environment,
Urbanization, and Climate Change have taken action and issued a final
demolition order. Business owners, numbering over 50, were given
until December 23rd to vacate the island. They were informed that if
the island was not vacated, demolition would be carried out under the
supervision of law enforcement.

Yesterday morning, construction machinery arrived on the island for
demolition. Riot police, along with water cannons (TOMA), took
security measures in the area. Shopkeepers tried to prevent the
demolition. One person resisted the police and injured himself with
a knife. Some business owners set their shops on fire by pouring
gasoline on them. Numerous people were detained.

The end is near...

The teams negotiated with the large group to evacuate the island. Police
teams removed the shopkeepers who caused the disturbance from the
island. The flames were extinguished with water cannons. After the
island was cleared, the construction machinery began the demolition.

‘Mhyochi’ on social media, was subjected to verbal and physical
harassment while live streaming in Kadıköy, Istanbul on
June 6, 2025.

Live broadcast showed the young woman running away in tears
from the elderly man who was harassing her -71-year-old Yusuf Ziya
Ağır (!), who was arrested and sent to prison for "simple sexual
assault."

During the hearing at the 54th Criminal Court of First Instance in
Anatolia, the defendant, Yusuf Ziya Ağır, who stated that he is married
and a father of three, said, "I do not accept the accusation. I am thinking
of my sick wife, I have nothing else to say." (!)

The court sentenced Yusuf Ziya Ağır to 4 years in prison for "sexual
assault by molestation," deviating from the lower limit of the sentence
due to his multiple previous convictions for sexual offenses (!) and his
lack of remorse.  No reduction was applied to the sentence, and his
detention was ordered to continue.

Following the local court's decision, the representative of the Ministry

decision. The 20th Criminal Chamber of the Istanbul Regional Court

"Time & Release": Ruling Party Members' Expensive Watches Clash With Others' Economic Hard Times, in Turkey

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Sözcü Newspaper, 21 December 2025)

Maybe telling time is different for rich people.

Let Them Wear Timex! click here for some extravagant history

As millions of citizens in Turkey wrestle with tough economic times,
some expensive watches worn by AKP (ruling party) members of
Parliament at the recent budget hearings caught everyone's attention.

For example, Nebi Hatipoğlu, an İYİ Party transfer to AKP from
Eskişehir, came to the hearing sporting an Audemars Piguet watch
that costs $214.000 (!).  Even a second-hand watch like this costs
around $175,000.  Hatipoğlu's watch has a black ceramic frame
and a titanium cover and face.

Last year, AKP Group Chief Bahadır Yenişehirlioğlu created a
stir when his $20,000 Rolex Submariner watch was noticed. This
year, he was wearing a Cartier Santos Medium Stell model watch
at the budget hearing, worth a mere $8.000.  Despite criticism,
Yenişehiroğlu vowed to continue wearing his watch (!).

Timex gives the same time!

The AKP party members' fascination with expensive watches
traces back to former AKP Minister Zafer Çağlayan, whose
$500,000 (!) Patek Philippe watch became a subject of
controversy during the "17-25 December 2014" bribery scandal
involving a number of AKP ministers and businessman Reza
Zarrab.  Çağlayan claimed that he had paid Zarrab for the
watch.

Gets the job done a bit more economically.

"Cut & Release": Ancient Tree Felled, But Parts Saved for a Museum Display, in Zonguldak

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hurriyet Newspaper, 20 December 2025)

                               Tree-hugger with a heart.

In Zonguldak, Engin Zaman, well-known cave expert /environmentalist,
reported that trees were being cut down in the forest near the Gökgöl
Tunnels on the Ankara road on May 19, 2024, while on his way home.
An investigation by the Regional Forestry Directorate revealed that a
yew tree, estimated to be 1183 years old, had been felled. Teams
determined that a subcontractor firm working on a stream rehabilitation
project for the State Water Works was illegally cutting trees in the forest
and filed a report.

The Regional Forestry Directorate teams fined the firm 45,090 TL (about
$1,000 for "unauthorized tree cutting" and "clearing land in a forested area."
Environmental associations and Engin Zaman filed a criminal complaint
against the firm. The prosecutor's office issued a decision of
non-prosecution. Following an appeal, the court determined that the
cutting was authorized and cancelled the 45,090 Turkish Lira fine. (!)

In happier days...

The tree was put up for auction by the Regional Forestry Directorate as
firewood at 2,000 TL per cubic meter. Engin Zaman won the auction by
paying 20,000 TL. Zaman stated that he had contacted various institutions
to arrange the tree's delivery and decided to donate parts of it to the newly
established Nature and History Museum after contacting the Istanbul
University Faculty of Forestry. The 21-meter-long yew tree was cut into
pieces and loaded onto a truck for shipment.

Engin Zaman said, “We calculated the age of this tree together with
Professor Barbaros Yaman from Bartın University. This is an 1183-year-old
yew tree. It is one of the most valuable trees in the world, and unfortunately,
it would have become firewood. This is a historical artifact. I didn't want
this historical artifact to be lost. The auction process cost 20,000 TL”

OUCH!

Professor Dr. Ünal Akkemik, a faculty member at Istanbul University-
Cerrahpaşa Faculty of Forestry, stated, "Initially, some parts of the tree
will be displayed at our Faculty of Forestry for educational and scientific
purposes. In the later stages, they will be included in the museum that is
planned to be established."

"Bark & Release": Divorce Judgement Grants Canine "Poni" to Man Weekdays and Woman Weekends, in Istanbul

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 19 December 2025)

Poni betrays preference with paw. Judge agreed in this
dog & Poni show.

Family courts have recently seen an increase in cases concerning the
custody of pets. Last month, in an amicable divorce case, the court
granted custody of two cats to the wife as per the agreement, and
ordered the husband to pay 10,000 TL (about $233) every three
months for the cats' care.

catamony click here for details of the above.

In another case, a family court in Istanbul has now issued a ruling
regarding the custody of a dog named "Poni".  A man named Ü.G.,
residing in Istanbul, filed for an "amicable" divorce from his wife,
E.G., whom he married four years ago, citing incompatibility in
thought and spirit.

In the amicable divorce protocol, Ü.G. included a clause concerning
pets, a common occurrence in recent divorce cases. In the protocol,
Ü.G. requested custody of his dog, Poni, stating that the dog would
stay with his ex-wife, E.G., on weekends. He stipulated that he would
cover all of Poni's care expenses, but that any extraordinary or
unforeseen changes in the dog's needs would be shared equally with
his ex-wife, E.G.

The court, announcing its decision, ruled that Ü.G. and E.G. were
granted a 'consensual' divorce. The court awarded custody of the dog
Poni to Ü.G., ruling that the dog would stay overnight with E.G.
every weekend. The court also ruled that Ü.G. would be responsible
for all pet care expenses, with both parties splitting the costs equally
in case of exceptional circumstances.

In Adana, Murat İnanmaz (19) kept on calling his former girlfriend
Yasemin S. (19),  after they had broken up.  Yasemin hanım
complained about this situation to her new boyfriend Abdülkadir
Bülbül (also 19 and whose surname means "nightingale").

Bülbül then had Yasemin hanım arrange a meeting with İnanmaz
on 12 December in Adana's Seyhan district.  Upon meeting, an
enraged Bülbül stabbed İnanmaz 10 times (!), killing him.

Police determined that Bülbül, Yasemin hanım and friend
Sezercan Ç. (18) were hiding out in a flat in the Sarıçam district of
the city.  Seeing the police besiege the apartment building, Bülbül
fled the 5th floor flat via several balconies.  Nevertheless, he and the

"Fleece & Release": Fancy Watch Offered on Internet Stolen Through a "Black Hole", in Istanbul

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Sözcü Newspaper, 17 December 2025)

No shame! Espousing "no smoking" but only for their scam.

In Bakırköy, Istanbul, T.Y.D. (23) put an ad on the internet to sell
a $40.000 watch.  In response, he was invited by some prospective
buyers to come to their newly-rented office.  Both parties agreed to
the sale, but the buyers put the watch in a "safe place" in their office
"until the cash arrives".

However (!), according to T.Y.D., "When I entered the office, the
person examining the watch said he liked it very much and would
buy it. This person called and instructed his friend to bring the watch's
value of $40,000. Then he took the watch and put it in a cabinet in
the room. We waited for a while. Then he went out saying he was
going to the restroom. When he didn't come back for a long time,
I became suspicious. When I opened the cabinet, I saw a large hole
in the back and realized the watch had been stolen." (!)

In the investigations initiated by the Fraud Bureau teams regarding
the incident, it was determined that the security cameras in the
building where the office was located recorded the moments the
theft occurred. In the footage, it was seen that one of the suspects
hid the hole in the wall with a 'No Smoking' sign (!) and took the
sign away to retrieve the watch that had been placed in the
"safe place" inside the office.

Following the security camera footage, the police detained one of the
suspects, Y.Ç. (54). The other suspect, C.E. (50), who was determined
to have fled to Balıkesir, was caught in an operation at the house
where he was hiding. During the search of the house, the watch,
worth approximately $40,000, was found and returned to T.Y.D.
Both suspects were jailed.

"Beat & Release": Monaco Prince Beaten by Paris-based Turkish Father and Son After Galatasaray's Loss, in Monaco

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Sözcü Newspaper, 15 December 2025)

Princely duties do not include getting beaten up by Turks!

Galatasaray fans, father and son Hasan B. and Selman B., beat up
Monaco princess's son (!): The whole country is outraged!

Selman B. and Hasan B., who went to Monaco for the Champions
League match played on December 9th, assaulted Louis Ducruet,
the son of Princess Stephanie of Monaco. After being detained and
sent to prison, the father and son were released with a three-year
ban from entering Monaco.

Galatasaray played Monaco in the sixth week of the Champions
League on Tuesday night and lost the match 1-0.  The French-
language newspaper NiceMatin reported that Louis Decruet, the
33-year-old son of Princess Stéphanie Marie Elisabeth Grimaldi
of Monaco, was assaulted by a Turkish father and son who normally
live in Paris (!) and had traveled to Monaco to watch the match.

Dad and son didn't take the loss well.

According to the details in the news report, Selman B. and his
father, Hasan B., attacked Decruet and two of his friends in the
VIP stands of the Stade Louis II after the match. The two men,
who assaulted Princess Stephanie's son and his friends, were taken
into custody by police.

The attack on the Grimaldi family, who rule Monaco, quickly
caused widespread repercussions in Monaco, Europe's smallest
country. The two Turks, after spending a night in custody, were
subsequently brought before a court and arrested.

The President of the Monaco Criminal Court, Florestan Bellinzona,
announced that Decruet and his friends were attacked by Hasan B.
and Selman B. while they were in the restroom after the match,
adding that no video footage of the incident has been obtained.

What would Grandma say!?

Describing what happened in court, Ducruet said, “I feared for my
life. If I had taken that punch, I could have collapsed and been
knocked out. I was afraid of being lynched.” Meanwhile, father
Hasan B. and son Selman B. stated that they did not initiate the
tension and claimed that what happened was merely a scuffle.

The Monaco court sentenced two Turkish Galatasaray fans to a
two-month suspended prison sentence. They were also banned
from entering Monaco for three years. Furthermore, the Turkish
father and son were ordered to pay €1,000 in compensation to
three victims.

Following the verdict, the two men were released and returned
to their home country of France (!).

"Sweets & Release": Tons of "Bad Candy" Seized and Destroyed, in Istanbul and Hatay

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 14 December 2025)

                      Not your traditional candy store.

In a raid on an illegally operating confectionery workshop in Esenyurt,
Istanbul, 9 tons and 400 kilograms (!) of jellybeans and various other
confectionery products, found to have been packaged under unsanitary
conditions, were destroyed.

Teams from the Esenyurt Municipality Police Department acted on a tip
regarding the unlicensed business located on 18th Street in the Zafer
neighborhood. The inspection revealed that production and packaging
processes were being carried out under completely unhygienic
conditions.

Following the detection of the situation, teams from the Esenyurt  district
Agriculture and Forestry Directorate also joined the investigation.
Authorities determined that the business lacked any official permits or
approvals, and that the production and storage areas used were far
from meeting health standards. During inspections conducted with the
assistance of food engineers, it was found that jelly candies and various
sweets, particularly those consumed by children, were being packaged
in unsuitable conditions. Consequently, a destruction order was issued
for a total of 9 tons and 400 kilograms (!) of products.

It's supposed to, anyway.

Footage captured by the body cameras of the municipal police officers
showed the products being stored and packaged in unhygienic
environments.  The sweets, loaded onto trucks by municipal teams,
were taken to the municipal waste facility and destroyed. The illegal
business was sealed and its operations terminated. Esenyurt Municipality
announced that inspections against businesses that threaten public health
will continue uninterrupted.

Meanwhile, in Reyhanlı district of Hatay province, two tons (!) of chips,
candy and chocolate were found to have lapsed expiration dates, so all
the products were thrown into a ditch by police teams and burned.

Must have been some "red hots" among the contraband.

The "Bad Candy Express" route.
