In the aftermath of the hurricanes that hit the United States, Ankara
Mayor Melih Gökçek tweeted "Pray that the U.S. gets many more
disasters." State Department spokesperson Heather Nauert could not
hide her amazement upon hearing of Gökçek's curse from a journalist
at the daily briefing.
Nauert stated in response that "I am a woman of faith and I hope thoses
curses fall on deaf ears because I cannot imagine praying that a disaster
be visited upon any nation. Really." Gökçek then took to twitter again
and tweeted "It is not possible for a Moslem to want a disaster for
anyone. A journalist with links to FETÖ (Fethullah Gülen Terror
Organization) played with my words when asking the spokesperson
about them."
Gülen had no comment but seemed pleased by the chaos.
