Uh, I don't think we're in Gstadt anymore, Toto.
There were some unexpected moments yesterday at the 13th
European Youth Olympic Winter Festival Games in Palandöken,
Erzurum, which Turkey was hosting for the first time. A 32-member
proselytizing group, members of the İsmailağa Cemaati (an Islamic
organization), from Istanbul and Bursa, entered the ski-jumping
towers and the ice hockey arena to distribute Korans, printed in
English, Russian and French, to the athletes and administrators.
"Hey, where's Lindsey Vonn?"
Police and security guards, however, prevented the İsmailağa
members to enter the facilities. One of the members, Ömer Sert,
explained that "The last Prophet came and went. So who will
explain Islam to people? We must assume this duty, especially
scholars and hojas. We have to invite people to believe. They
don't know. If they did, they too would believe. In recent years
they have been distributing Bibles in our country but we weren't
able to distribute Korans in our own country."
