      Justice delivered - the show must go on.


Turgut Bekar (31) was paralyzed from the neck down after an auto
accident in Izmir but before that he had been involved in a fight and
was given a 1.5 year prison sentence. Bekar has been delivered to
prison officials in the arms of his friend Yunus Kutluca, who lamented
"what's happening to Turgut is unjust. After the accident he's living
in constant need of help.  How is he supposed to live like this in jail?"

Bekar lives in Karsiyaka, Izmir, and worked at a factory in the Cigli
Ataturk Organized Industrial Park.  He was involved in an auto
accident in October 2012 in Dikili, along with his friend Ender Sarac,
who was driving. Bekar spent 3 months in intensive care and survived,
but he is paralyzed from the neck down.

A year before the accident Bekar was involved in a fight and given a
sentence of 1.5 years in jail.  Once the sentence was approved by a
higher court Bekar was taken into custody and sent to Foca Prison,
where other inmates are helping the invalid Bekar as best they can.



Karsiyaka is across the bay from Izmir. Foca is a bit up the coast.

Hoping to be a lyric in the next Mary Poppins film.

Mehmet Neytullah Ucarturnagurbetgezer of Diyarbakir is preparing to
extend his surname to "Ucarturnagurbetgezerdiyardiyarellerde" in order
to enter the Guinness Book of World Records.

Ucarturnagurbetgezer(59)  (his surname means 'flying crane who wanders
in strange places') works for a state organization and has 4 children.  He
explained that his father chose the 20-letter surname to reflect his constant
wandering but now Neytullah wants to extend it to 37 letters.  He added
that he is happy when people are surprised by his surname, which is like
something from a folk song.

Neytullah stated that thanks to a new law he can extend his name without
a court ruling to "Ucarturnagurbetgezerdiyardiyarellerde".  Neytullah is
known in his circles for playing his 'saz' (lute) and singing folk songs. He
he also wants to be known for the longest surname in Turkey, with a
place in the Guinness Book of World Records.

Neytullah, who was born in Diyarbakir's Dicle district, said that his
father changed the family name from Akcakaya to Ucarturnagurbetgezer.
A while ago Neytullah decided to extend the name with the words
"diyar diyar ellerde" (meaning 'strangers in other lands') but was foiled
because the name wouldn't fit on an identity card.

Having such a long name can sometimes create problems, according
to Neytullah. When obtaining a police report he had to wait 3 hours
because of the length of his name and his children have been bothered
at university for the same reason. Nevertheless, Neytullah proclaimed
that "in spite of the difficulties I won't give up my surname."


Dicle district is in the north of Diyarbakir province.
 

9/11 Villain as Hair-Removal Pitchman

Proof! These celebs never actually use the product they endorse!

In an advertisement for a hair-removal spray published on the
internet by a Turkish cosmetic company, a photograph of the 11
September 2001 Al Kaida mastermind Khalid Shaikh Muhammed
was used.

The company made the following announcement: "We found the
photograph on the internet. He's a very hairy fellow and we chose
his picture because he was appropriate for our product. We didn't
know he was a terrorist."  Khalid Shaikh Muhammed is currently
being held at Guantanamo prison in Cuba, facing a death sentence.

UFO Expert Tracks Aliens Despite Poverty

Space friends aren't helping Yalman pay the bills.


In Ayvalik, Balikesir, Yalcin Yalman, whose photographs of UFO's
have reportedly been investigated and confirmed by NASA, through
the good offices of the Sirius UFO Space Science Research Center,
is in dire financial straits.  Yalcin has sold his camera and other
equipment he used to scan the heavens for next to nothing but he
nevertheless enthusiastically continues his observations of the sky
with the naked eye.

Yalman claims to have established communications, by means of a
light source he discovered, with space beings via signals sent to Earth
as the sun goes down.  He asserted that every night tens of UFO's
visit Earth and that space beings are in the deep seas and even have
a colony on the Moon. According to Yalman, the space beings are
of two different types - Zeta and Oregon. He also claims that the
Earth is in the year 1814, based on the Inca calendar.

Because of credit card debts Yalman's retirement salaray has been
sequestered and he's having a tough time making ends meet. Neighbors
and friends have been trying to sustain him with meals brought from
their homes.  Yalman is married and has an adult daughter.

As the result of his financial difficulties Yalman's UFO research
has been put on hold. In spite of this, Yalman has determined with
his naked eye that UFO's mostly traverse the skies betwen 3 and 6
a.m. and that Turkey is a favored landing site for UFO's because
of its underground mineral wealth.

Yalman takes pride in having organized conferences and held
lengthy discussions with international astronomers Erich von
Daniken, known for his work "Chariots of the Gods", Nick Poll,
Anthony Orizi and Jayme Mussan, about the photos he has taken.
In the event that Yalman can find a patron, he vows to buy a new
telescope, tripod and other equipment to take pictures that will
startle the world once again.

A Duel is No Laughing Matter

Salih Turhan, a soloist in the Istanbul State Folk Music Chorus, has
filed a complaint with the public prosecutor because of a laughing
dispute with another member of the chorus.  On 25 September a concert
at which the chorus performed, under the direction of  Chief Ugur Kaya,
was the scene of the unusual dispute.

As Turhan, who had taken the stage as a soloist, was addressing the
audience a woman in the chorus could be heard laughing.  Since the
hall was silent at the time the audience could not help but hear the
laugh and Turhan was put in an awkward position. Subsequently,
Turhan spoke with the chorus members and related the unpleasantness
of the incident. He asked that the laugher step forward and apologize
to the chorus and to himself.

At this point, chorus member Hamdiye Mutlu revealed that she was
the laugher but she explained that the reason she laughed had nothing
to do with Turhan.  Hamdiye Mutlu then apologized to the chorus but
not to Turhan.

Evidently Hamdiye Mutlu related the incident to her husband because,
according to Turhan, a few hours later he received a call from a
number he did not recognize. The caller was Hamdiye Mutlu's husband
Mehmet Mutlu who began insulting Turhan and challenged him to a
duel.  The public prosecutor has begun an investigation based on Turhan's
complaint.

Kebaps By Day, Orgies By Night

      At least they orgy on a full stomach...

The Nevsehir police received a tip as follows: "a store selling
kebaps and meatballs by day is turned into a nightclub in the
evening. They have orgies on the bottom floor."  Police then
raided the establishment at night and, sure enough, found
Turkish, Afghan, Iranian and Iraqi men and women (not further
identified) drinking and improperly cavorting.  Legal measures
will be taken regarding the store's proprietor.


Nevsehir, perhaps not the place you'd expect orgies.

Cavedwellers of Sanliurfa...And Loving It!

                 Modern-day Flintstones.

In Viransehir, Sanliurfa province, the Vural family lives in the cave
their grandfather settled in 60 years ago and left to them as an
inheritance. Because the cave is warm in winter and cool in the
summer the family prefers to live there. They have brought electricity
into the cave and avail themselves of all the modern conveniences,
from refrigerator to oven and from TV to electric heater. They've
installed a satellite TV antenna at the entrance to the cave.


Climate-controlled and satellite TV-equipped.
     
Consequently,  the family is happy in their cave. Resat Vural, who
lives in the cave with his father, mother, wife and two children
says that "I was raised in this cave. And it's earthquake-proof. We're
not giving any thought to leaving the cave."
