"Sqeeze & Release": Another Truck Overturns After Failing to Heed Overpass Height, in Bakırköy

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Kanal6Haber website, 21 May 2026)

It's all about the immutable laws of physics...

The overturning of a truck that crashed into the Marmaray train overpass
in Bakırköy Ataköy,  Istanbul, has brought back to the forefront the
long-standing debate about the "same spot" of accidents in the area.
Following the underpass accident in 2019, a crane belonging to İSKİ
(Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration) also overturned at the
same overpass on November 7, 2024. With this latest accident, attention
has once again turned to Strazburg Avenue.

The accident that occurred today took place on the coastal road of Ataköy,
Strazburg Avenue. According to the information received, the driver of
the truck with license plate 59 AEP 575 (registered in Tekirdağ province)
failed to notice the height  (!)of the Marmaray overpass and crashed
into it.

The truck overturned as a result of the impact, and medical, police, and
fire crews were dispatched to the scene. The driver, who sustained minor
injuries, was taken to the hospital after receiving first aid.  Traffic
congestion occurred in the area due to the accident, and work has begun
to remove the overturned truck.

                                      "Hey! It didn't fit!"

Today's incident has brought to light similar accidents that have occurred
at the same location in Ataköy.  On March 27, 2019, a truck and a tour
bus got stuck in the train underpass on Strasbourg Avenue, halting traffic
in the area for a long time. Images from that time caused a stir on social
media.

Despite calls for safety measures in the area following the accidents,
the continuation of similar incidents is noteworthy.  The Marmaray
overpass on Strasbourg Avenue has been in the news not only because
of today's accident, but also because of another incident that occurred
recently.

On November 7, 2024, a crane belonging to İSKİ  crashed into and
overturned at the same overpass. Traffic was disrupted in the area after
the accident, and citizens expressed the need for stronger safety
measures for heavy vehicles.

"Breed & Release": American Children Track Down Rich Turkish Father, in Izmir

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(NTV website, 20 May 2025)

                                        Reluctant dad.

Kasım Pırlant began his business career in Chicago, USA, in 1973 as a
waiter in an entertainment venue, and later purchased a restaurant in
the same state.  In 1978, he entered the real estate business, and by the
time he returned to Türkiye in 1985, he owned nine shopping malls.
Pırlant also frequently made headlines in the economic world with his
multi-million dollar investments, which he started in Izmir in 2005.

HOWEVER (!)

While Pırlant's investment journey continued, siblings Henry Kevin
Jackson and Candice Jackson, who were born and raised in Chicago,
realized that their mother Carolyn Jackson's words, "Your father
abandoned us. He has a shipping company in Greece and lives there,"
before her death in 1999, were true, and they set out to find their father.

Kevin and Candice Jackson, went to the Chicago club where their
mother had worked years ago and spoke with the employees. They
were told that their father was Kasım Pırlant, who also worked there,
and that he and their mother, Carolyn, had worked together at the club
years ago.

Following this, Kevin and Candice Jackson researched Kasım Pırlant
online, believing him to be their father. They learned he was in Izmir
and traveled to meet him.and they met with Kasım Pırlant twice in İzmir.

                                       Kids and mom.

The two siblings stated that Pırlant did not legally recognize them as his
children. Following this, the Jackson siblings took legal action in 2018.
Pırlant passed away in 2023. DNA samples taken during the legal process
revealed a 99.9% DNA match between the Jackson siblings and Pırlant.

In a decision issued in 2023 by the 13th Family Court, the judge ruled that
Candice Jackson and Kevin Henry Jackson should be officially registered
in the population registry as having Kasım Pırlant as their father.

Following appeals against the Family Court's decision, the case was
transferred to the 2nd Civil Chamber of the Supreme Court of Appeals.
The Chamber, after reviewing the case, ruled that the local court's
decision was in accordance with procedure and law.

The ruling emphasized that the mutual claims and defenses of the parties,
the documents submitted to the file, the legal rules applicable to the
dispute, the trial and evidence processes, and the court's reasoning were
all considered together; it also underlined that the objections raised in
the appeal petition were not of a nature to warrant overturning the
decision.

Meanwhile, it was learned that the Jackson siblings' lawsuits regarding
the annulment of the will and their objection to the sale of the shopping
mall are ongoing.

And on to Izmir!

"Beat & Release": Woman Strangled With Her Dog's Leash in Istanbul, Body Dismembered and Parts Buried in Kırşehir

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 17 May 2026)

                                     Ouch.

The dismembered body of Farkhondeh Ghaem Maghami, an Iranian
national who had been reported missing in Istanbul, was found in
Kırşehir. It was determined that Maghami was strangled to death
with the leash of her own dog by Erkan B., with whom she had argued,
and that her body was dismembered in a vehicle and buried in a field
in Mucur, Kırşehir. (!)

On May 12th, Darıush Tahbaz went to the Maltepe Küçükyalı Police
Station in Istanbul and reported his cousin, Farkhondeh Ghaem
Maghami (68), an Iranian national, missing, stating that he had not
heard from her since April 11th. Teams from the Missing Persons
Bureau of the Public Security Branch Directorate began working on
the missing person report.

Police teams examined Maghami's apartment in Maltepe Küçükyalı,
where she had lived for 20 years. The teams determined that Maghami
led a quiet life and regularly paid her rent, bills, and dues. Upon
discovering that the food had been left unattended and spoiled,
police expanded their investigation.

Double ouch...

Teams noticed that voice messages were frequently sent from
Farkhondeh Ghaem Maghami's phone number to the apartment's
WhatsApp group, but on April 18th, a message saying "I'm on vacation"
was posted. Finding the message suspicious, police discovered that
the last person Maghami had spoken to was Erkan B. Police
determined that this individual, who lives in Esenyurt, had a
relationship with Maghami.

After examining HTS records, they found that Erkan B. picked
Maghami up from her home on April 14th and they had dinner
together at a restaurant in Büyükçekmece. Erkan B., who was taken
into custody, initially denied the accusations but later confessed to
the murder and showed police the crime scene.

In his statement to the police, Erkan B. reportedly said that after an
argument in the car during their last conversation, he strangled
Maghami to death with the leash of her dog. The suspect reportedly
confessed to placing the body in the back seat of the car, then
dismembering it inside the vehicle and putting the pieces in bags,
after which they remained together in the car for two days. (!)

It was stated that the suspect, Erkan B., is married and has been
released on probation for previous crimes. Expanding the
investigation, police teams also detained Mesut A. and Sedef G.,
who were determined to be connected to the incident. The three
suspects were referred to the courthouse after the completion of
their procedures at the police station.

On April 22nd, in a field in the Mucur district of Kırşehir, human
remains were discovered after stray dogs reacted to the soil.

Following the excavation of the dismembered human remains,
investigations revealed that the body belonged to Farkhondeh
Ghaem Maghami. It was learned that Maghami's remains were taken
to the Ankara Forensic Medicine Institute and will be handed over
to her family tomorrow after the necessary procedures are completed.

"Fleece & Release": Turks Best Defense Against Phone Fraud - "I Don't Speak Turkish!"

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Milliyet Newspaper, 11 May 2026)

               Thinking of learning Urdu henceforth,

Suna Ülger (60), a retired woman from Antalya, was defrauded of
700,000 TL (about $15,500) after believing she had invested in an
investment fund through a link she saw on social media. Convinced by
the promise of earnings supported by artificial intelligence, and having
her phone accessed remotely, her bank accounts were taken over. Ülger
said, "The people I dealt with were quite professional. Therefore, no one
should say, 'I won't be defrauded'." (!)

Suna hanım said, "This news report featured an interview between a
government official and a well-known, reputable journalist. The interview
stated that banks weren't providing sufficient returns to their customers,
while some reliable investment institutions could offer higher returns.
It specifically mentioned that with the development of artificial intelligence
technology, the risk in such investments had decreased and the potential
for increased returns. First, I checked the accuracy of the news. Thinking
the link below the interview was reliable, I clicked on it."

Suna hanım, stating that she initially made small gains, said, "The link
contained information suggesting that by investing approximately 11,000
TL, small gains could be made through an AI-powered system, contributing
to daily expenses. After filling out the form, I was contacted. It was
supposedly an exchange and investment network. I did some research
to check if such a company actually existed. I saw some records with
similar names. The person who introduced themselves on the phone said, '
Suna hanım, welcome as a new investor,' and provided guidance. An
account was created through the link sent to me. Then, cryptocurrency
wallet accounts were opened. I transferred money from my bank account
to these accounts. The money I invested appeared as approximately
$229 in the system. Initially, small gains such as $10, $11, and $6 were
shown."

She added that "Approximately $50 was sent back to my account. The
people I dealt with were quite professional. Therefore, no one should say,
'I won't be scammed.' They really use very professional methods. I
thought I was proceeding cautiously, aiming to earn a small extra income.
However, at a certain point, I was asked to perform a screen-sharing-like
operation via my phone. I unknowingly accepted this request. After this
stage, they gained remote access to my phone and accessed all my data.
They took control of my bank accounts, social media accounts, and other
personal information on my phone. Loans were taken from my bank
accounts, and my advance limits were used. They also accessed my
phone book, called my relatives, and used my name..."

Suna hanım said that she lost thousands of liras in seconds, said, "I
announced that people should absolutely not trust those who make
investment recommendations in my name. My aim was to prevent
other citizens from becoming victims. In total, I was defrauded of
approximately 700,000 TL. This amount was withdrawn from my
accounts through loan applications and the use of my advance limits.
I suffered a very serious loss, almost equivalent to a retiree's annual
income."

The Deputy Chairman of the Consumer Confederation (TÜKONFED),
lawyer İbrahim Güllü, also stated that fraud methods frequently change,
saying, "These fraudsters generally imitate public institutions and
organizations, using images and photos of well-known public figures
and government officials. In this way, they create a sense of trust in
consumers. When users access these platforms, promises of high profits
are offered, and small gains are shown to gain their trust. Consumers
who believe this initially think they are making small profits through
'phishing' methods. However, afterwards, the fraudsters can obtain
personal data, take out loans in the victims' names, and empty their
bank accounts."

Güllü emphasized the need for caution when approaching virtual media
content, stating, "These types of incidents are generally within the scope
of organized crime and have the nature of gang activity. The phones and
communication channels used by fraudsters are often traceable. Therefore,
it is of great importance that prosecutors act quickly to apprehend the
perpetrators. Fraudsters operate with extreme professionalism, using
persuasive visuals and communication methods, and acting by analyzing
human psychology very well. The necessary complaints have been filed
with the Public Prosecutor's Office and the cybercrime units within the
scope of information crimes for Ms. Suna. We hope that the public
authorities will identify the perpetrators and bring them to justice in a
short time, and that the victims' losses will be compensated."

In Alaplı district of Zonguldak, a 2-year-old girl boarded a public bus

"Beat & Release": Professor Ş.T. vs Professor S.T "Smack-down" - Referied by The Terminator, in Istanbul

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 8 May 2026)

                              The machines are laughing.

A woman named Prof. Dr. Ş.T., who works as an academic at a
university in Istanbul, and her colleague Prof. Dr. S.T. were friends
since high school. Their friendship developed into a romantic
relationship after August 2025.

However (!), Ş.T. wanted to end the relationship. S.T., who refused to
accept the breakup, began harassing Prof. Dr. Ş.T. by  calling her
hundreds of times and sending emails. S.T. sent emails containing
defamatory information about Ş.T.'s private life to her family and to
the rector, dean, and faculty members of the university where she
worked, sharing false personal health data about Ş.T.

Prof. Dr. S.T. threatened Ş.T. with death using the line "Hasta la vista
baby" (!) from the movie "Terminator," spoken by Schwarzenegger's
character, and began blackmailing her with constantly increasing
amounts of money. Unable to withstand the persistent stalking, death
threats, blackmail, and severe insults from her ex-boyfriend, Prof.
Dr. Ş.T. filed a criminal complaint with the Istanbul Chief Public
Prosecutor's Office through her lawyer.

S.T to Ş.T:

Ş.T. stated in her testimony to the prosecutor's office that her former
boyfriend, S.T., threatened her with her daughter, ex-husband, and
profession. Ş.T. said, “I have no peace. He tried to take everything
from me – my academic life, my family life, everything I worked so
hard for over the years. There were days when he called me 90 times
in one night, sending emails until dawn. I am complaining about S.T.,
who ruined my life and financially and emotionally. I want him to
be punished.”

S.T., who gave a statement as a suspect in the investigation, denied
the accusations against him. In his statement, S.T. admitted to having
an emotional and sexual relationship with Ş.T., claiming that he
contracted a viral illness as a result. S.T. stated, “I did not threaten
or blackmail her. I may have said insulting words to her because of
the viral illness I contracted. I do not accept the accusations against me.”

The prosecutor's office, having completed the investigation, prepared
an indictment against the suspect S.T. for the crimes of 'blackmail'
and 'stalking,' requesting a prison sentence of 2 years and 6 months to
6.5 years. The case will be heard in the Istanbul Criminal Court of
First Instance in the coming days.

Bolcal (22) and Berke Aksoy (23), who beat Yanıkkollu to death in the
minibus because of a dispute over a transportation tender, were arrested
for the crime of 'intentional homicide'.

The accident occurred on the night of April 25th on the Tarsus-Adana-
Gaziantep (TAG) Highway, in the direction of Osmaniye-Adana. The
minibus with license plate 01 F 3875, driven by Oğulcan Güneyer,
collided with the car in front of it, with license plate 42 APT 32, driven
by Adil Çelik.

Following the accident, Güneyer, with his friends Efehan Bolcal and
Berke Aksoy, and Muzaffer Yanıkkollu in the vehicle, continued towards
Adana without stopping. Encountering the Gendarmerie at a rest stop,
Güneyer claimed they had been in an accident and that Muzaffer
Yanıkkollu was injured. Thereupon, accompanied by the Gendarmerie,
Güneyer drove his minibus to the Adana City Training and Research
Hospital.

While Muzaffer Yanıkkollu, who was unconscious, was taken for
treatment, Oğulcan Güneyer, whose blood alcohol level was determined
to be 2.72 promille, was taken into custody. His friends, Efehan Bolcal
and Berke Aksoy, left the hospital without receiving any treatment.
After his procedures at the gendarmerie, Güneyer was referred to the
courthouse and released under judicial supervision. The minibus he
was driving was impounded. Muzaffer Yanıkkollu, who was undergoing
treatment in the intensive care unit, passed away on April 28th.

HOWEVER (!),

An autopsy performed on Muzaffer Yanıkkollu at the Forensic
Medicine Institute revealed signs of beating on his body. The Adana
Chief Public Prosecutor's Office, after examining the circumstances
of the accident and the damage to the vehicle, assessed that the
likelihood of the accident resulting in death was low. Furthermore,
the fact that Efehan Bolcal and Berke Aksoy, who were also in the
vehicle, were unharmed increased suspicion. Additionally, it was
determined that the camera recording device in the minibus involved
in the accident had been removed by cutting its cable.

Inspiration

The Gendarmerie, deepening the investigation, discovered that
approximately a month before the accident, Yanıkkollu and Güneyer
had fought over a transportation tender from the Ayas Minibus and
Bus Motor Carriers Cooperative, and that there was animosity between
them as a result. It was determined that neither party filed a complaint
against the other, and it was assessed that they may have met again
to fight for this reason.

Following the issuance of a warrant for the re-arrest of the suspects,
Gendarmerie teams launched a large-scale investigation. It was
determined that Berke Aksoy, who boarded a plane at Çukurova
International Airport on April 30, went to Istanbul and purchased
a plane ticket to flee to Georgia. Aksoy, who was preparing to escape
abroad, was apprehended at Istanbul Airport. Gendarmerie teams
detained Oğulcan Güneyer in Adana and Efehan Bolcal in Kayseri.

In his statement to the gendarmerie, Oğulcan Güneyer denied the
allegations against him, saying, “I called Efe and invited him to my
house to drink. Then we went to pick up Berke in the car. After
driving around Ceyhan for a while, we bought alcohol from a liquor
store and returned home. After drinking 3 bottles of alcohol, we
went out again to wander around. At that time, I called Muzaffer,
first asking how he was doing, then suggesting we meet. After
picking up Muzaffer from in front of a kebab shop, we set off
towards Adana. Muzaffer was dancing the çiftetelli in the car's
aisle. In the accident, he was thrown around and hit his head on
the windshield. Berke laid Muzaffer down in the aisle, and I drove
straight to the hospital.”

When questioned about the bloodstains found during the house
search and the scars on his arms and face, Güneyer confessed
to the incident, stating:

“Two days before the incident, I.A., with whom I had an argument
on the phone, insulted me and my family. When I met with my
friends Berke and Efe, I told them that Muzaffer was responsible
for this. While drinking alcohol, I said to them, ‘Should we take
him and beat him up?’ They agreed, so we met with Muzaffer.
We argued while drinking alcohol in the minibus and Efehan
started punching Muzaffer. Then Berke also got in the back and
started hitting Muzaffer. I was driving. Then I pulled the minisbus
over to the side and Efehan took the wheel. Berke and I continued
beating Muzaffer. While we were driving, we collided with a car
with license plate number 42, so I took the wheel and we went
to the hospital.”

Oğulcan Güneyer, who also stated that he and his relatives removed
the camera recording device from the minibus in which Muzaffer
Yanıkkollu was beaten while it was in the impound lot, and his
friends Berke Aksoy and Efehan Bolcal were referred to the
courthouse. The three suspects, who were brought before the court
on charges of 'intentional homicide', were arrested.
