Following in her footsteps, with bad intent.

Irem Nur B. was physically assaulted by Emre B., who was following
her, as she entered the apartment building where she lives. Emre B., who
fled but was later caught and arrested, was found to have a police record
for 'sexual abuse of a child'. (!)

On the night of April 19th in Kağıthane, Istanbul, a suspect followed
İrem Nur B. (26) to her home and physically assaulted her at the entrance
of her apartment building. When İrem Nur B. screamed, the suspect ran
away. Hearing İrem Nur B.'s screams, apartment residents rushed to her
aid. After İrem Nur B. tearfully recounted what had happened, a neighbor,
half-naked, chased after the suspect. Another neighbor joined the chase
a short time later.

Following İrem Nur B.'s complaint, police launched an investigation.
Numerous security cameras in the neighborhood were examined to
determine the suspect's escape route. In an operation lasting approximately
12 hours, the teams meticulously tracked the suspect, examining footage
from various locations, and identified him as Emre B. (19), who worked
at a bakery in the Yahya Kemal neighborhood. The police apprehended
Emre B. while he was making bread at the bakery (!).

Will bake bread for fellow inmates henceforth...

It was determined that Emre B., who was taken into custody, had a prior
police record for "sexual abuse of a child." The suspect, who reportedly
stated in his testimony that he only greeted her and did nothing else, was
referred to the courthouse after the necessary procedures. Emre B. was
arrested by the court on charges of "sexual harassment" and sent to prison.

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 21 April 2026)

Now showing! "A Foul Murder in the Ad Panel Leg".

In Antalya, cafeteria and municipal employees, while investigating the
source of a long-standing foul odor, discovered the unrecognizable body
of a man inside an LED advertising panel. It is believed he had died
 approximately a month ago. (!)

The incident occurred around 1:00 PM in Serdengeçti Park on Cumhuriyet
Street in Muratpaşa district. According to reports, employees of the
cafeteria located within the park had been unable to locate the source
of a strong, foul odor for some time, despite their best efforts.

Suspecting that an animal might have died inside an LED advertising
panel in the park, and that the odor was coming from this, the cafeteria
employees notified municipal officials. Upon arrival, municipal officials
opened the wooden base of the advertising panel's control panel and were
shocked by what they found. They discovered a decomposed corpse,
believed to be that of a man who had died approximately a month earlier.
The municipal officials immediately notified the 112 Emergency
Call Center.

Headed for a more suitable final resting place, one hopes.

Following the tip-off, teams from the Homicide Bureau, the Crime
Prevention and Investigation Bureau, and the Crime Scene Investigation
team were dispatched to the address. Due to the odor emanating from the
body, the teams worked wearing masks. After examination by the
prosecutor and police teams, the body, which had no identification on it,
was taken to the Antalya Forensic Medicine Institute morgue for
identification and determination of the cause of death. Police teams are
continuing their efforts to identify the deceased.

You can smell it from here!

TNT History Archives: Roman-era "Piggy Bank"'s Coins Extracted With Dental Tools, in Side

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 20 April 2026)

                         And no need for novocaine!

A Roman-era piggy bank found in the ancient city of Side, which
remained intact for 18 centuries, caused astonishment. First, an ENT
doctor examined it with a camera, then an X-ray revealed it contained
495 silver coins. One of the coins, which were removed one by one
using dental instruments, was found to be a 'fake'. (!)

Within the scope of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism's "Legacy for
the Future" project, archaeological excavations at the ancient city of
Side, led by Prof. Dr. Feriştah Alanyalı from Anadolu University, have
gained momentum in recent years. In the excavations in Manavgat
district of Antalya, the historical fabric of the city has been significantly
restored, and valuable artifacts have been unearthed. During our visit
to the ancient city of Side, we listened to the stories of how these
artifacts were discovered and their historical significance from the
Head of Excavations, Alanyalı, and the Director of the Side Museum,
Melih Kılınç.

The Side Museum underwent changes in its indoor and outdoor
exhibitions last year, adapting to modern museum practices. Among
the prominent artifacts in the museum's new exhibition area is a Roman
piggy bank dating back to the third century AD. This rare piggy bank,
which has survived intact to this day, contained 495 silver coins. One
bronze coin, later revealed to be a counterfeit from that period, was
also found. The counterfeit coin found in the piggy bank is also one
of the first examples of counterfeiting in the ancient world.

Excavation director Prof. Dr. Alanyalı and Side Museum Director Kılınç
told Hürriyet the story of how the piggy bank, which could be the
subject of a film, was discovered in 2012.

Modern "dental archeology".

Prof. Dr. Feriştah Alanyalı: "Our archaeologist colleagues found a piggy
bank during the excavation. It was covered with soil. They brought it to
the excavation house. They said, 'Professor, this is very heavy.' We have
a professor who studies coins. He said, 'Feriştah, let's go to Akdeniz
Hospital. I know a doctor there.'

We also took our Ministry representative with us. We knew an ENT
doctor there. We got our tickets as if we were registering a patient.
The doctor looked inside the piggy bank with a small camera used to
look inside the ear. We saw that it was overflowing with money and
coins. Then we got another ticket. We went to the X-ray department.
We had an X-ray taken. It was completely full. Then we immediately
handed it over to the museum. Our museum restorer kept the piggy
bank in a solution for days. Then he took out the coins one by
one with tweezers. There were 495 pieces. One of them was fake.,
It contained symbols belonging to different emperors. We had never
seen such a complete piggy bank before. They usually break."

When science branches merge, wonders ensue.

Melih Kılınç: “This is a coin box from the Roman period, containing
silver coins. It was found in the Archeopark area opposite the Ancient
Theatre. The coins were removed one by one through the opening
where the coins were placed, without the box being broken in any way.
Our restorer kept them in a chemical solution, and they were removed
as they dissolved using dental instruments and tweezers. These coin
boxes are not usually seen intact like this. Because they were broken
in ancient times, as well. This is one of the only examples that has
survived intact to this day. We examined all 495 silver coins individually.

One of them was a bronze coin, a forgery from that period. There was
counterfeiting back then too. Of course, numismatist Ahmet Tolga Tek
said this. He said, ‘It's an ancient forgery.’ We are keeping the forgery
in our storage. There is no forgery in the metal, it's bronze, but its
forgery within its own period has been determined. The coins also
have portraits of Roman Emperors and Roman Empresses on them."

Ahhh, a lovely holiday on a Greek island...

Farmers on the Greek island of Lesbos (Midilli in Turkish), protesting
against the foot-and-mouth disease quarantine, blockaded the port.
Due to the protests, ferry services between Ayvalık and Lesbos have
been suspended until April 22nd. A one-way evacuation trip was
organized for Turkish tourists whose tours were cancelled and who
were stranded on the island.

Tensions are escalating on the Greek island of Lesbos, a popular destination
for Turkish tourists, due to a month-long quarantine imposed because of an
outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease in animals. Farmers, protesting and
demanding the lifting of the quarantine, have been blockading the port of
Lesbos for three days. This situation has caused hardship for Turkish
tourists visiting the island. Ferry services between Ayvalık (Turkey) and
Lesbos have been suspended for a week.

The announcement stated that ferry services from Turkey to the island
would be suspended until April 22nd due to the blockade. As a result,
hundreds of Turkish tourists have had their previously planned tours to the
island cancelled. Meanwhile, efforts are underway to rescue Turkish tourists
who have already arrived on the island and are stranded for several days.
A one-way ferry service was organized from Lesbos to Ayvalık last night.

Messiahs are coming out of the woodwork!

For many years Hasan Mezarcı has claimed to be the Messiah (!).
In an interview given on November 25, 2000, Mezarcı stated that he

Jesus Christ, and announced that he would fulfill his mission with his
apostles.

So (!) when U.S. President Trump posted an image of himself as a

Yesterday, Trump added another controversial statement to his list.

TNT History Archives: Atomic Theory - Ömer Sıtkı Işıksal, The Misunderstood "Turkish Einstein"

türkçe links to original Turkish article

(Cumhuriyet Newspaper, 12 April 2026)

                  Soldier- Scientist Ömer Sıtkı Işıksal

By Tolga Aydoğan

Explorer who discovered the atomic model

Could such a scientist emerge from our country in the years when
Einstein's discoveries shook the world? The views and discoveries
defended by Ömer Sıtkı Işıksal, who said that he was not understood
by the scientific community in Turkey, open the door to a "what if"
story that many of you have not heard before.

On January 19, 1933, at 13.30, the Great Leader Atatürk left the
mansion where he was staying in Bursa and visited the spa facility
in Çekirge and then the Bursa İpek İş Factory.

Here, after receiving information from the factory manager Reşat Bey,
he stopped by the military hospital to give morale to the patients, and
while taking a breather in the chief physician's room, he was
informed that a person wanted to meet him.

The incident was reflected in the next day's Cumhuriyet newspaper
as follows:

"Before leaving the hospital, His Excellency the President listened to
the explanation of Sıtkı Bey, who was promoted from the military district
governorship (lieutenant colonel) in the medical room. Sıtkı Bey says
that he has discovered a new atomic model and that this discovery will
make great revolutions in the world of physics and chemistry and, due
to its application, in the world of science. He even published an article
about his discovery in a reputable magazine in the French science world
and aroused interest. He participated in the Nobel science award
competition. He is trying to have his work published in order to enter.
His Excellency Gazi also promised to help in printing this person's work.”

Upon this news, the press of the period became interested in the issue
and all eyes suddenly turned to Ömer Sıtkı Işıksal, who claimed to have
discovered the atomic model.

Ömer Sıtkı Bey, whose name had not been heard in the scientific world
until that day, was a soldier of engineer origin. After graduating from
engineering school, he was sent to Germany for education with a state
scholarship, where he worked as a manager at the Tophane factory and
as a physics-chemistry teacher at Bursa Işıklar Military High School
in his later years.

On the other hand, he invented a periodic table that he claimed to fill
the gaps in Mendeleev's periodic table, which is used in the field of
chemistry.

Atatürk wanted this discovery of Ömer Sıtkı Bey, who asked for his
support, to be investigated and brought together the scientists of the
period in Dolmabahçe Palace. He personally attended the first meeting
on February 25, 1933. Physics professors Salih Murat Uzdilek and
Tevfik Subaşı, two of the important teachers of the period, astronomer-
mathematician Ord. Prof. Dr. Ali Yar, the first atomic physicist
Prof. Dr. Fahir Yeniçay, Kandilli Observatory director Fatin Gökmen,
Chemistry professor Ligor Taranakidis were among the delegation.

Sıtkı Bey's thesis was evaluated for three days, and the Turkish press
followed the developments closely. In the Cumhuriyet newspaper,
under the title "Atomic theory debates", it was stated that "Sıtkı Bey
claims to have reached the important conclusion that physics scientists
are busy searching for" and asked him to be associated with the
publication of his book and his discovery in order to be a candidate
for the Nobel Prize.

Again, in the 26 February 1933 issue of Cumhuriyet newspaper, the
statement of Sıtkı Bey, who was stated to have won a science award
from France, "It will be possible to move a train with a spark" was
also included, and the power of the atom was tried to be explained.

However, no positive results emerged from the three-day meetings.
Ömer Sıtkı Bey could not convince the professors in the delegation
about his discovery. One of the teachers expressed his negative opinion
with the sentence: "The theories that Sıtkı Bey claims to have
discovered have no value from the point of view of logic in today's
scientific world."

Prof. Dr. Salih Murat Bey, though, stated, "If the world of science
can use the pressure inside an atom, a small spark will be able to
move locomotives and ships for years. Scientists are currently
working to learn the mechanism of the atom. Benefiting from this
will be a task that will take years."

The committee claimed that Mr. Sıtkı tried to make a discovery in
good faith, but that he repeated existing scientific data and was
confused on some issues. The first atomic physicist Prof. Dr. Fahir
Yeniçay said that if necessary, they could discuss the issue at
Darülfünun Faculty of Science and that if Sıtkı Bey were right,
they would applaud him.

Sıtkı Bey responded to the delegation who do not believe in his
discovery through the press and claimed that they did not understand
him. He said, "You know, Einstein was the target of many slanders
when he said this. Now, we see that there is no event that is not based
on that theory," and likened his situation to the situation experienced
by Einstein.

He also added: "However, our revolution is not the age of iron and fire,
but the age of electrons. I am sure that this will be understood sooner
or later," and claims that it will be understood in the future.

Ömer Sıtkı Bey published his book describing his discovery in January
1934 under the title "New Atomic Theory." He also made efforts to be
nominated for the Nobel Prize, and even published books titled
"Atom and Mathematics" and "Mechanics and Electricity."

A remarkable news item about Ömer Sıtkı Bey appeared in the Son
Posta newspaper on November 7, 1948. The news stated that Sıtkı Bey's
work "contains the atomic formula and the definition of the atom
within this formula, which even American scientists who possess the
atomic bomb did not yet know."

It was also stated that the Nobel Committee examined and admired
Sıtkı Bey's work, and it was shared that Fritz Arndt, a chemistry
professor at ITU, took action to nominate him for the Nobel Prize.
On the other hand, Işıksal corresponded with the Nobel committee
in 1948 and 1949 and stated that he wanted to be a candidate for his
discovery.

In response to his letter on May 5, 1949, in which he explained his
discovery of the atom, he received a letter from the Rector of the
Federal Polytechnic School in Switzerland, Fritz Stüssi, who noted
that the work was received positively and would be shared with
Ferdinand Gonseth.

And the aftermath of Ömer Sıtkı Işıksal is unknown. His family,
whom I could barely reach, said that he corresponded with Albert
Einstein about the periodic table during his lifetime, and that they
had a box of documents waiting to be investigated.

Ömer Sıtkı Işıksal left us as a "misununderstood" explorer, in his
own words, who claimed to have made a great discovery since the
1930s, who strived to be a Nobel candidate.

Victims need to learn this...for next time.

Suspects posted fake ads on platforms like Letgo and Facebook, claiming
"I've been transferred, I'm selling my belongings," and gained the victims'
trust by posing as soldiers or police officers.

To strengthen communication with those they had made agreements with,
the gang, which supposedly arranged transportation, increased credibility
by sharing minibus and bus license plates and driver information.
Believing their goods were en route, the victims sent the money, but
neither the products arrived nor could they find anyone to contact.

Following complaints, an investigation revealed that 234,750 TL (about
$5,200) in illicit gains had been obtained from 21 victims. The Diyarbakır
Chief Public Prosecutor's Office identified a total of 37 million TL (about
$828,000) in transactions in the bank accounts used by the suspects. On
April 7th, simultaneous operations were conducted in Antalya, Batman,
Istanbul, and Bismil district of Diyarbakır. 23 suspects were taken into

searches of the addresses.

Following questioning by the Diyarbakır Duty Magistrate Court, 10 of the
suspects were arrested, and judicial control measures were imposed

Özgür Saraç, a resident whose car's roof was crushed by
fleeing people, stated that he regularly fed the dogs and that they
wouldn't attack anyone they didn't suspect (!). “Twice in a month,
friends who are afraid of dogs climbed onto my car. It wouldn't
occur to anyone to climb on top of a car, but we don't  know how
they came up with that idea.

they probably sensed something. Let's not call it an attack; they just
bark, we have never witnessed them biting.”

arrived at the door said, "You scared us, we've been trying to reach you
for hours." Neighbors who entered the apartment tried to help her.

Waking up to the noises as the teams entered, she said, "I was very
tired and sleep-deprived. I wasn't scared, but I couldn't understand why
the door was being knocked on." The police officer told Gülcihan hanım,
"In these kinds of situations, if neighbors or relatives can't get in touch,
we have to break down the door." She replied to the police, "I'm sorry.
I was so sleep-deprived that I dozed off," and then thanked the police
teams.

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 9 April 2026)

                         A viral lingua franca incident.

An English conversation involving a  little Chinese boy and a foreign
tourist went viral on social media. The little boy asked the tourist
where he was from and when the tourist responded "We're Turks"
the boy praised Turkish ice cream (!).  The boy said his mother had
taught him English.

Prof. Abdullah Sayıner, the Turkish tourist, returned to Izmir on Monday.
Dr. Sayıner told Hürriyet about the video that made him instantly famous
on social media: "We went on a tour with a group of friends from medical
school. We went to see the works known as Terracotta Soldiers in Xi'an,
China. While we were resting after dinner, that little boy came and said, '
I want to talk to you' in very clear English, and I was very happy. He was
a very sweet, very sympathetic child. I even noticed in the photos that he
had a camera. I was very surprised that it spread so quickly."

"Messages are coming from many parts of the world, from Pakistan,
Canada, America and Paraguay. Frankly, it doesn't seem like such an
exaggeration to me, but it means that people miss these relations. This
is a sad thing for the world. If an ordinary meeting attracts so much
attention, it means that people do not come across this in their daily lives."
