Five years ago, Nurettin K., a businessman who deals in fuel,
requested 'help' from his friend Fatma Y. (46) in regard to
providing sexual experience to his son B.K., who was 14 years-
old at the time.  Fatma Y., about whom a prostitution inquiry
had been launched previously, made an agreement on the matter
with Bahar O., who was 25 at the time.

On 9 December 2011, Bahar O. came to Nurettin K.'s home in
Kandilli, Istanbul, and had sexual relations with the child.
Coincidentally, while police were involved in a separate case
against Nurettin K., they monitored his telephone and these
conversations about his son came to light.

The police forwarded the case to the Anatolian public prosecutor
and Bahar O. was summoned to testify. She admitted that she
had engaged in sex with the child at his father's behest and for
money.  B.K. was psychologically examined and was found to
have suffered no negative effects from the encounter (!).

Nevertheless, both Nurettin K. and Fatma Y. were charged with
child exploitation and prostitution, with a sentence of from 5 to
12 years requested.  As for Bahar O., she is now charged with
child exploitation, with a sentence of from 3 to 8 years requested.
The trials of Nurettin K., Fatma Y. and Bahar O. will begin in
the coming days.

İffet hanım - dog day afternoon's revenge is sweet.

In Karşıyaka, Izmir, İffet Kocaçam (39) went outside her home on
13 April to feed the street dogs.  At this time, two males drinking
in a parked car began to howl and bark at Kocaçam, prompting her
to photograph the car's license plate and send it to the public
prosecutor as a complaint.

The prosecutor then filed a case against Ali İ. and Recep K. for
"disturbing an individual's peace of mind", with a sentence of
from 3 months to 1 year requested.  At the first hearing in court
in Karşıyaka, Judge Nermin Erol sentenced both suspects to
2 months and 15 days in jail. Ali İ.'s sentence was converted to

 Accepting condolence bouquets of forget-me-nots.

The Turkish Airlines (THY) flight on 7 October 2015 from
Istanbul to Stuttgart was rocked by an incredible scandal. Two
passengers, one from Istanbul and the other from Ankara, who
were both seriously ill, were forgotten on the plane when it landed.
The pilot, crew and other passengers left without noticing that the
two patients were still there.

Nermin Başak (80), who has a broken hip, and the other ill
person, who was injured in a car accident, along with two of
their relatives, were abandoned on the plane until midnight.
Only after the accident victim beat on the plane's walls and
Başak screamed did anyone come to help.  Finally the German
Red Cross rescued the two patients, although Başak had a
heart attack while waiting.  The two patients and their relatives
are preparing lawsuits against THY.

The THY flight from Porto to Istanbul had to make an emergency
landing in Rome because of a 'drunken fans crisis'. Members of
the famous Super Dragoes supporters of the Porto team of Portugal,
were aboard the flight to make a connection in Istanbul for Israel,
where Porto would play Maccabi in a Champions League game in
Tel Aviv.

Four fans, who were already drunk when they boarded the flight,
continued their unruly behavior on the plane, despite warnings.
Considering this to be a threat to the plane's safety, the captain
decided to land at Rome's Fiumicino Airport.  Italian police took
the four rowdy Porto fans into custody. The plane then resumed
its flight to Istanbul.

Süleyman's Magnificent Lost Bridge, Found

türıkçe links to original Turkish article

(Hürriyet Newspaper, 1 November 2015)

When the Sultan says build me a bridge in 3 weeks, well...

With this article you will be introduced to the little known
8th wonder of the world.  Sultan Süleyman the Magnificent
had a bridge build across the Davra swamp and river at Osijek
in today's Croatia.

The bridge was 7 kilometers long, 7 meters wide and was built
in 20 days by 25,000 men, without using even one metal nail. Legend
has it the bridge was designed by the famous Ottoman architect
Mimar Sinan. Over the bridge thousands of cavalrymen and soldiers
of the Ottoman army passed during their expeditions to the west.

At the time, Süleyman was 72 years-old and was intent on storming
Vienna on this journey to Zigetvar, Hungary.  En route, and in order
to reach the Hungarian plain, the Drava River and its swamp had to be
crossed. On 6 June 1566, Süleyman issued a ferman (order) to the
Ottoman governors of Peç and Mohaç to have the bridge built. Süleyman
passed over the bridge alive on the way to Zigetvar but he came back
dead, having died of natural causes at Zigetvar on 7 September 1566.

In 2008 work to clean up a lake near the village of Darda turned up
long, thick logs with pointed tips. Research by the Zadar Underwater
Research Institute determined that the findings were related to the
bridge, which up until then had only been known about from
engravings and war notes.

The bridge had been burned by the Austrians in 1686 and Mladen
Pesiç of the institute has recovered some of the burned pieces.
Based on radioactive carbon dating and dendochronology techniques,
the wood was determined to have been from the period between
1440 and 1650.  The wood was joined together without metal nails,
using the wooden nails and contemporary binding methods.
